Best album of all time?

Queen’s 1981 ‘Greatest Hits’ compilation has topped the list of the biggest selling albums of the last 60 years.

“I always thought the band showed promise, but this is beyond our boyhood dreams!”Brian May

The Official Albums Chart revealed the 60 biggest selling albums of all time to mark their 60th anniversary this week. Meanwhile there were reports that 2016 has been the worst year for album sales in a quarter of a century.

Whether you think the future is digital, or the Long Player is the pinnacle of musical achievement, on Now Playing this week we want your help to celebrate the album’s contribution to the story of alternative music.

So what would you like to hear in our #GreatestAlbum6music playlist? We’d like your recommendations for standout tracks from your favourite albums of all time. Biggest doesn’t always mean best, so whether your favourite album sold 6million copies or just 600, we want to know why it’s your pick for the best album ever.

Maybe you agree that The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper is an all time high (it came 3rd in the Official Charts bestsellers list), or cherish a track from Verve’s Urban Hymns (placed 18th). Or maybe your favourite album of all time is something that you’d never see in the bestsellers list. Whatever album means the most to you, let us play your favourite track.

You choose the music, so get your recommendations for the track we should play from your best album of all time to Tom via the hashtag #GreatestAlbum6Music and help build the playlist. Comment on the Now Playing Facebook page, here on the blog, email nowplaying@bbc.co.uk or drag tracks onto our Spotify playlist.

The album is dead. Long live the album!
