Watch out, it’s started again. Silly season. Slow news, dog days of summer and all that. The time of year when Parliament and the Law Courts are not sitting, everyone is on holiday and there’s nowt to talk about. This is when we see the emergence of daft news stories.
One such music news story arose today, after Marilyn Manson duetted with Billy Corgan on an extraordinary live version of Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’. Manson was dressed as a priest, and Corgan was dressed as a nun. You guys!
To capitalise on the fun times ahead, next week Shaun Keaveny broadcasts his 6 Music Breakfast Show live from Edinburgh, a city currently barrelling through it’s annual Fringe Festival where zillions of comedians perform daily shows to tired tourists.
So we thought, what a perfect opportunity to have another stab at #TomFoolery6Music. Regular Now Playing listeners will know we did a similar playlist topic last year, and it went down so well that we couldn’t resist doing it again.
We want your suggestions for tracks that tickle. Songs that smirk. Not necessarily novelty or intentionally funny songs (although we wouldn’t say no to a bit of Flight of the Conchords or Tenacious D), but songs that make you laugh inexplicably.
You pick the music, so get your funny song suggestions to Tom via the hashtag #TomFoolery6Music to help create a playlist. Comment on the Now Playing Facebook page, here on the blog, email nowplaying@bbc.co.uk or drag tracks onto our Spotify and Rdio playlists.
