As the week draws to a close, so too does our entry period for the BBC Radio New Comedy Award 2013.
It's important not to forget that you have nothing to lose by entering. We want to hear from as many people as possible. We don’t care where you come from, we just want to know who you are and if you can make us laugh. Last year’s winner, Lucy Beaumont, recorded her entry on her laptop in her bedroom – you may be in the same situation or you might have an entry recorded in front of a paying audience. As long as the material is strong, you are in with ashot at this.
If you’re one of those people who always apply on the last day then we’re very much looking forward to hearing from you!
However, before you submit your entry, please make sure you’ve done the following:
- Read the terms & conditions
- Checked out our entry FAQs
- Made sure your audio is no longer than 5 minutes
- Followed our upload guide for your Soundcloud entry
- Have provided accurate contact details on your entry form
We’ve received tweets from entrants worrying that they haven’t received an email confirmation of their entry. Do not panic: we will email you, but only once we’ve been through your entry and made sure that we’ve registered your information and your audio entry is correct. As long as you see a confirmation message (‘your message has been sent’) on screen once you have hit the submit button, we’ll get your entry.
As we’re expecting a tidal wave of comedy potential to fly into our inbox on Friday, we do want to emphasise that it is doubly important that you follow the aforementioned audio upload guide.
Your audio needs to be:
- Uploaded to Soundcloud
- Have downloads ‘enabled’
- Be set to private
- Shared with newcomedyaward@bbc.co.uk
Once you have the audio file uploaded, you need to click the ‘share’ button to get the ‘secret link’. If it doesn’t have a random string of numbers and letters at the URL, you’ve copied the wrong link and we won’t be able to access it. Again, this is detailed in the upload guide, along with some handy screen shots of the process.

Need inspiration? Watch our video with former entrant Adam Hess and then get your entry in!
Good luck everyone!
