You hum 'em and I'll play 'em
That thing you do when you reply to my blogs is remind me of things I may have overlooked, such as That Thing You Do (among other fake pop songs from the movies and TV that could have, should have been real).

Theres too many great songs to suggest a clear leader but I would like to single out "Its A Shpadoinkle Day", not only does it feel like a genuine number in a straight faced musical but it also invents a new word.
It really is a Shpadoinkle musical!

Joss Whedon wrote songs for his masterpiece Cult TV Series in which Buffy and his Friends are stuck facing a demon with the power to start cliche musical songs and make the cast sing and dance. Mark you mentioned before you had seen certain Buffy Episodes, well this is one other you must check out.

Not even his best cover, given that his version of Mack The Knife was so good - not to mention his cover of Disco 2000... :-P

I haven't seen the whole film but the bits I have seen make it look great, in a 'so atrocious it's good way'. It's hard to believe they were making it as a serious remake.

Mama's got a brand new bag, yeah (*2)
She's gonna groove it the whole night long, baby
We're gonna groove it the whole night long baby
We're gonna work it out baby
We're gonna shake it tonght, yeah
Stretch out now, yeah
I hear you talkin'
I hear you talkin' there, baby
Yeah oohh
Well, you turn me on baby
You're burning up now baby
The whole explenation of the lyrics by Dudley Moore/Bo Dudley makes it ever funnier...

I'd have to go with the first performance myself, (can I suggest Dr K that you take a similar approach to reviewing films? Except that you shoot the projector/ screen ). Comedy gold. Also from the same Episode the song sung by Father Bern and Cyril is the ultimate pop-song.

P.S. I would recommend checking out the out-takes on the extra features on the Spinal Tap DVD - you'll find an extended version of "All The Way Home" on there... classic.

P.S. to Dr. Kermode: I finally located a copy of Andrzej Zulawski's Possession, watched it for the first time a couple of days ago, kind of fell in love with it and will proceed to alienate friends and family by being obnoxiously enthusiastic and forcing surprise viewings on anybody who dares step foot in my house. I'd never even heard of the film in passing before now which seems kind of insane, it's definitely one of the best and most unique films I've ever seen.
That's all really, just thanks for such an amazing tip. Absolutely loved it. (I'm not as enthusiastic about Nolan, but whatevs.)
