what a great film

Great news but sadly a little late for me - I imported the US DVD back in 2002 ;-)



One of the things that I thought was strange was that a couple of years before that I bought the book about the making of the film by David A. Szulkin from a shop in Meadowhall in Sheffield and it featured a detailed rundown of every scene and many full colour pictures (including of the notorious disembowling scene).



I suppose that more than anything points out the absurdity of censorship when the exact same material is legally available in printed and photographic form!

Considering not even Craven himself knows what exactly constitutes an 'uncut' version of this film, it will be interesting to see which version we end up with.



I am betting on a version identical to the long-available US title, which although not suffering the cuts imposed by our censorship board, the last time the film was put forward, still differs from the original version screened theatrically.



This is one film where the term 'uncut' is too simplistic - perhaps the phrase 'more complete than before, but still missing key scenes' would be more apt, but perhaps wouldn't sell the product quite so well.



Personally, I'd pay top dollar for a version without the 'hilarious' bumbling cops, but maybe that's just me...

Has the report you sent to the bbfc been post anywhere on the internet? I am interested to see how you managed to confince them to release it uncut.

I didn't make much of this but its difficult to get a true feel of a film after years of horror hype.



Don't get me wrong though, its at least 103846 times better than most horror released now.

It is not a patch on last years French shocker 'À l'intérieur' (Inside to us and our American friends)



Truly one of the modern horror films that achieved everything that Craven's movie failed at.



It looks stunning, but yet beneath the arty exterior lies a film that has emotionally impacted on me more than any I have seen since the 80's and 'Cannibal Holocaust'.



It is a shocker in the very best way and I hope it gets a theatrical release here. It deserves it.

I think I may have the uncut version as i bought it through ebay from another country (I can't remember exactly where). Nasty movie, although I can see how it has been influential.

I don't know if Mark ever reads these comments, but I would be very interested to get his overall opinion on the films of Lucio Fulci - mostly 'The Beyond'.
