Gary Inight joined us for Memory Tapes this week hoping to restore our faith in the music of the mid-seventies. We're convinved. Here's what he said:

These records all conjure up a specific time and place for me. The time is 1975/76 and the place is my bedroom. I'll set the scene. I had left school and was studying at my local technical college in Newport. I cycled home from college each day and as soon as I was home I made a bee line to my bedroom. I can still recall the sound of the needle gently touching that 12 inch slab of vinyl. I'd listen to these albums until my mum called me for tea.

It was fun being a music obsessed teenager in the mid Seventies. Contrary to popular belief, there was good stuff being made just before punk broke. The accepted world view is that rock and pop was completely knackered and punk put it out of its misery. Not so! Granted, there was a fair amount of stadium dross but a lot of good stuff as well. I'd like my playlist to go some way in setting the record straight. It's my case for the defence. Punk was just around the corner…but that's another story!
