Our Memory Taper this week has decided to celebrate her 30th birthday in style with a big bash in London at the weekend. This mixtape has been one of the toughest decision-making things this 29-and-11-month-old (her words) has had to do.
"The party is themed as 'the best of...', so everyone's wearing their best clobber and the music is the best music from the last 30 years. I knew the task of compiling the best music of the last 30 years would be a big one so I started a while back. I work from home so I'm lucky enough to have BBC 6 on everyday as I work. I've have had an excel spread sheet open on the laptop every day ready to list ideas and must-haves. There's been many a moment of 'Yes, definitely that one!' and 'ohhhh yes, I forgot about that one!' It's been the most fun. It's changed from a case of 'it's my party and I'll cry if I want to' to, 'it's my party and you'll listen to every damn song I choose!'...
I've decided to go back in time so we're going to start the compilation in the current and then end it in the 80s. I’m using a few 'best of...' film sound bites to take us from decade to decade so guests will know when we're going out of a decade and into a new one.
I can't wait to dance my socks off to all of them - particularly Let's Dance - I spent ages convincing my wedding band to learn this for my wedding reception and then they played it while I was in the loo - I've never forgiven them for that!"
