    Democracy Now are carrying an extensive interview with bassist Charlie Haden (now Jack Black's father-in law, trivia fans). Haden's well known for his forthright political views on US foreign policy, and has reformed his seminal Liberation Music Orchestra in response to recent events in the Middle East.

    Haden's come in for some stick for his views around the blogosphere of late, as has Matthew Shipp . With the exception of Gilad Atzmon, it would seem that political activism belongs to the avant garde. But it wasn't always that way. And it wasn't always so far from home, either.

    Bailey started the event by saying "OK let's see who's playing and who's just listening".

    Half the audience got up and walked up to the stage.
