Hello! Nick here from BBC Music Introducing in the North East. I present the show for Tyneside, Wearside, Northumberland and County Durham on BBC Newcastle – Radio for the North East. I’m here to talk about The Great Exhibition of the North! What on earth is that? Well it’s a one off “free, summer-long celebration of the North of England’s pioneering spirit”. It includes Art, Music, Culture and other stuff and is billed as “the country’s biggest event in 2018”. We’re interested in the music part. It’s happening at the wonderful Sage Gateshead. Not only have you got Lauren Laverne’s Great Northern Soundtrack. This features the likes of Nadine Shah, Pins, Róisín Murphy and many more. BBC Music Introducing is also involved!
We’ll have 6 amazing acts from the North of England who are going to be introduced by myself and the lovely Tom Robinson from BBC Radio 6 Music. We’ve got Newcastle’s own A Festival, A Parade. I’ve been playing AFAP on the show for the past couple of years. Their latest track Cold Shower is produced by Paul Gregory from fellow Geordies and Bella Union records’ Lanterns on the Lake, and is a bold move forward for the band.
We also have Polo who are from Leeds and have already played Live at Leeds and The Great Escape this summer.
Dylan Cartlidge is a singer, MC and multi-instrumentalist from Middlesbrough supported by BBC Music Introducing Tees. His latest, Scratch, Sniff, has been a Huw Stephens track of the week.
Chrystal is an RnB/pop singer from Bolton supported by BBC Music Introducing in Manchester. She has been compared to Lily Allen, Katy B and Ray BLK.
Roxy Girls from Sunderland are relatively new to the BBC Introducing Uploader. Fresh from playing the Hit the North Festival they bring their angular sounds to the Sage.
Headlining we have the amazing Sam Fender from North Shields. He was on the BBC Music Sound of 2018 longlist and has recently been to SXSW with BBC Music Introducing.
It’s an amazing line-up and if you’re about we’d love to see you there! It kicks off at midday on Saturday 30th June.
