On the playlist: alphabet. feat. ILA - Just Another Day

Our third BBC Introducing track on the Radio 1 playlist in 2014 is Just Another Day by alphabet. Its place on the playlist means it’ll be featured in Radio 1 daytime shows and part of Huw Stephens’ now legendary podcast after his show on Wednesday. Hometown: alphabet. are Leeds producer/musician duo Jamie Hartley and Jacob Savage.

Style: The pair produce a considered mix of indie and electronica influenced by Jamie’s position as a resident DJ across venues in Leeds and Jacob’s background as a session musician and student of classical music and composition. Just Another Day is a great introduction with minimal beats, a slick feel and a gentle ghostly vocal from ILA. Certainly one for fans of Jamie Woon, The xx and James Blake to get stuck into.

You need to know: alphabet. only came together in October last year and wasted no time in producing an EP for the masses; alpha.ep came out in December and features several workings of Just Another Day alongside remixes.

Supported by: The track was uploaded at the end of October 2013 and was played by BBC Introducing in West Yorkshire a few days later – the show has been a staunch supporter of the duo ever since.
