1Xtra: Mahalia - Sober
This week we have Mahalia as our featured artist on 1Xtra's playlist! You can hear her track 'Sober' being played by A.Dot, Mim, Yasmin, Twin and Nick all week.
Supported By: Our main man Dean Jackson from BBC Music Introducing in The East Midlands
Style: Warm R&B grooves.
Essential: Mahalia is a 19 year old artist from Leicester who first uploaded to BBC Music Introducing in 2013. She has been writing songs since she was 12 and her hard work soon paid off, as she was picked up by Rudimental to feature on their single 'We the Generation' in 2015. Her style is undeniably R&B, and while the influence of the great patrons Erykah Badu, Sade and Lauryn Hill is there, she makes it her own with reflective, honest lyrics.
