Declan McKenna is the latest BBC Introducing act to be selected for our sought after weekly spot on the Radio 1 playlist. His track “Brazil” (which you can listen to in full below) will receive plays from Fearne, Greg and Scott. Find out more about the band that started in a basement and let us know what you think.
Home county: Hertfordshire.
Style: Perfectly encapsulating the UK indie genre, Declan's music features raspy vocals, sung with a strong English accent and full of heartfelt lyrics. For fans of Jamie T and The Libertines.
You Need To Know: Declan was a teen when he first shared his music with BBC Introducing in Beds, Bucks and Herts. His earlier songs really reflected his blues and rock n roll influences, but over time he developed into a future indie superstar with his sound. In the same way artists like King Krule and Jake Bugg impressed with their age and quality musicianship, Declan McKenna is a new name to remember.
