i still havent quite recovered from Reading, had a lot of fun there though. so much ace music going on and not enought ime to see it all. Mastodon, YYY's, Arctic Monkeys, Get Cape and Primal Scream stick out though. Ooh, and Mazimo Park on the last night. blogged about it on my myspace too with atop ten of highlights. ignore the bit about Imogen from big Brother though innit:)
tonights ite the Raido 1 Wales show with Beth Elfyn, and we've got a few stormign Reading live tracks to play.
Had loads of fun doing the covers show on Tuesday - thanks to all of yall for suggestions of covers. the Wedding Present sesison was special - Back for Good has never sounded so good! Listen again if you missed it.
this Staurday im off to Macs Fest in Carmarthen - its a strong line up with Automatic, Euros CHilds, Texas Radio band, Kentucky AFC, Killa Kella, High Contrast and loads more playing. Gonna be introducing a few of the bands there and a spot of djing too.
not sure what m doing tonight, but Rob has Bat For Lashes in sesison on his show tonight - gonna have to give it a listen!
currently playing: Radiodread. genius:)
I've been listening to Akira the Don's brilliant forthcoming album - When We Were Young. The rapper has had a colourful past, involved with Interscope records and his debut is a blast - some polished, some gritty, some sad and some witty. There's a few hits on there too I reckon, and the single Oh! is a banger!
On another note, Bonnie Prince Billy's forthcoming album might well be his best yet. His lyrics and the whole tone of the album is so beautiful and lonesome, with a few bursts of joy along the way. It's called The Letting Go and its out in September - best song is probably No Bad News, but my god, the whole listening experience blows you away.
tonight on Radio 1 Wales from 7.30 (you can listen online if youre not in Wales of course) its all about the Green Man festival - loads of live highlights from Aliens, Donovan, Gruff Rhys and more. And da Bank has even more live highlights on his show tonight!
got records to pack for Reading this weekend now after pre rcording a few Radio Cymru shows. really looking forward to it now. Ive been passing the Reading site ont he train for the lst couple of weeks watching it grow - itll be good to finally get there! I'm looking forward to seeing Mastodon, Belle and Sebastian, Get Cape, Forward Russia, GLC, Primal Scream, Muse, Arctic Monkeys, YYY's, Cribs, Slayer and Prince.
What dyou mean Prince isnt playing?.......
see you there:)
Check out he Green Man photos on the OneMusic site, all expertly snapped by producer Louise! The Green Man special is on tonight at 11pm, with live music and ace records from the festival and beyond...
Been listening to some recently sent in demos today, a few of which are in the show tonight too..
peace and love in a Green Man styleee

the Green Man festival over the weekend was a lot of fun. I got back last night, thanks to a lift in Bethan Elfyn's green campervan. I'd bought a huge wooden mushroom for the garden before leaving too, which is currently sitting in the lounge...
The festivals been going for 4 years, and this was my 3rd year there. It's certainly grown, and the new stunning location suits the vibe perfectly. It was like a medieaval village, with the stages perfectly placed. A wonder here to you to the walled garden, down there was the Folkey Dokey stage, there were beards everywhere, the food was lush and the beer was strong (or was that just me?!) Green Man hasn't lost any of its appeal, quite the opposite - it's grown, but when you're on to a good thing, you want as many people as possible to know about it!
So I enjoyed sets from Bat for Lashes, whose Fur and Gold album comes out soon and is stunning. Hadn't seen her play before - it was ace. Gruff Rhys played one of the best gigs I've seen him do with a few covers of Tebot Piws and Meic Stevens and a new song too. He was joined onstage by Lisa Jen who sings in 9Bach, who I managed to miss on the Sunday. Andrew Hockey played a lovely set in the open air Cafe stage where the bar was strategically placed for when the rain decided to tumble down - you might have heard him on last weeks show - he'll be on again on Tuesday too.
My friend Ow introduced Juana Molina onstage, and the Argentinian songstress was on top form, looping it up and making a perfect sunny Sunday afternoon soundtrack.
It was a festival of Gareth's - Misty's Big Adventure were brilliant - hadn't seen them before either, but Grandmaster Gareth was on top form, finishing off on that 'lots and lots of money' song they do. Gareth Bonello the Gentle Good was lovely, and Gareth Pearson is an incredibly talented 17 year old who'll blow your mind.
Cardiffian Chris Fowler was showing films in the Filma nd Literature tent on the Friday night, and I thoruoughly enjoyed those - early Donovan, gospel choirs wielding guitars and random UFO sightings - it was a total joy and a total change to watch...
On Sunday morning I saw Gruff Rhys play in a cave a few miles from the festival site. there was water dripping, it as dark and cold, and his voice sounded amazing as it echoed round the cave. Welsh songstress Gwyneth Glyn played too, and local ramblers didn't quite know what was going on. At least I think that all happened. I might well have dreamt it..
Big up Euros Childs, King Creosote, Silver Jews, M Ward, Phil Roebuck, Voice of the Seven Woods, brave Captain, and so many more too. All together, playing for the love of it, to audiences who were loving it.
Thank the lord for the Green man festival!!!
(ps - there'll be highlighs on my show on Tuesday night, Rob's show on Thursday, and the Radio 1 Wales with beth on Thursday too - relive those memories!!!)
Blood Red Shoes session last night was great - the show went very quickly. Its
the same each week- I gear myself up for a week for the show all week, listening
to everything and getting hyped up, then BANG! it's over and I'm back in the
holiday inn watching the Mint and not being able to sleep.
Thanks to all of ya'll who got in touch last night with suggestions of covers
for the special we're doing on the show in two weeks, and please do keep em
coming. The Wedding Present are doing a session of covers for the show, and
every other tune is going to be a cover. Should be fun.
On the train back from London today I listened to and very much enjoyed James
Yorkstons new album, The Year of The Leopard. Its his best album so far too...looking forward to seeing him at Green Man
today I listened to a bit of Stve Lamacq on 6Music, and bleached the garden. It needed to be done sadly, the bins were stinking, so I got rid of them all. The bin is collected on my street on a Wednesday morning, when I'm in London, so they've been growing for a while. Such is life.

Last nights show was chock a block with good tunes - two 1 miunte ones from Emmy the Great and MC Lars, the brand new Das Wanderlust single - Orange Shop, which is great, Get Cape's new single, Dr Octagon, some dubby grime, a new Bobby McGee's song, Hot Puppies, that incredible Peter, Bjorn and john single which is the Single of the Year so far, and Loney, Dear in session. They're Swedish and have a lovely album out called Sologne. They'll be releasing more records over here soon on Something in Construction records, and have been signed to Sub Pop in the US of A. Good stuff indeed.
It was a fun show, Louise and Natasha were on fine form, although I do regret drinking that half a cup of red wine. Today back to Cardiff listening to a Stereolab compilation that I'll be playing on the show soon. They are incredible, one of the finest. I was scissoring and gluing my fanzine together ont he train. It has no name yet, but ive put it together int ime for the Eisteddfod next week in Swansea. I hadn't had dried glue on my hands for a long time. Weird...
