Last year I blogged about some changes we are making to the way the BBC works with its digital indie suppliers. In the run-up to Christmas we published new Invitations to Tender for Digital Testing and Digital Design. Both those contracts should be awarded shortly.

I’m pleased to confirm that we have now published the Invitations To Tender for the BBC Digital Services Framework. The ITT is now available to view. Click on ‘view tender opportunities’. The project title is “BBC Digital Services Framework” and the ITT reference is itt_29814.

The new roster should give us a variety of suppliers to provide “Digital Services”, which are services and solutions for:

• Digital Design;

• Application Development;

• Mobile Application Development;

• TV Development (interactive and IPTV);

• Database Development;

• General Development Practices;

• and/or Digital Testing.

Suppliers can apply for one or more of these categories and the procurement procedure used is ‘open’ - a simpler single stage procurement. Suppliers who applied for the previous tenders, unsuccessfully or successfully, are welcome to apply for this opportunity.

The CBeebies Playtime app (above) was developed by Mobile Pie as the result of a competitive tender process. It’s just one recent example of where the BBC has worked sucessfully with external suppliers.

One point of difference from previous BBC rosters is that this new Framework Agreement has a minimum duration of just nine months (with the option to extend for a further 9 months plus months). This gives us the option to open up the Digital Services roster to new entrants at regular intervals, should the need arise. This approach will be familiar to suppliers who have already registered for the Government Digital Service Store.

If you’re a digital indie and would like to submit a response to this BBC Tender please log into Bravo now.

The closing date is May 16 at 1400.
