Barbarians at the gate (2)
A few months ago I expressed my fears for the long-term future of Cornwall's university at Falmouth. Yesterday the University College Union published this report, including Falmouth as one of 49 "at risk" as a result of the government's proposals for higher education. Indeed, the UCU identifies Falmouth as one of the 27 most at risk. The University tells me I shouldn't worry, claiming the UCU has failed to properly appreciate the popularity of arts, media, design and performance degrees. Let's hope so.

Cornwall doesn't have a University yet.
There is an externally orchestrated English Exeter University Euro-fund grabbing annexe inserted into Cornwall which works in 'partnership' (ho hum) with other HE and FE institutions in the Duchy.
"...it is ... not a university in its own right, and it does not have its own degree-awarding powers. Our main aim is to increase Higher Education (HE) provision in Cornwall, and to do this as an association of HE providers.'

Of course Cornwall should have had her own University arising out of Glasney and/or Crantock around 4-500 years ago but Henry VIII of over in England nipped that prospect in the bud by the usual means.
Perhaps one day soon, and in the not too distant future, Exeter University over in England will assume the grace to relinquish its grip on Cornish educational establishments and allow the true University of Cornwall to come forth and stand on its own two feet with full degree conferring powers, just like the University of Wales.

Likewise it has no stadium or sporting facility of any merit and if Cllrs such as Fegusson, Foulkes and Wallis have their way it never will,what a legacy to be proud of...
