Business Management Apprentice

I always believed I had the potential to become a manager and leader but knew I didn’t have the tools to get me there. Where I previously worked, there wasn’t a lot of opportunity to explore or develop my skills so I needed to find a place that I could do both. So, when I saw the business management apprenticeship advertised, I took my chances, applied and I am so glad I did!

It’s only been a month and I have already learned so much from those around me. Everyone is willing and eager to help and advise you on how to get where you need to be. What’s more, is that you’re treated like one of the team not just an apprentice. There is never a dull moment, as every day is different and everyday you are challenge but it’s great as the best way to learn is to get stuck in. In just four weeks I have been to the one show, seen Rod Stewart in the flesh, talked business with Aaron Banks and had a chat with the director general himself; Tony Hall. There are plenty of opportunities to mix with the best and top people in radio, TV, film, news and much much more.

Learning on the job, for me feels like the best way to learn, as you’re able to broaden your understanding by seeing it in action. Applying theories and knowledge to real life situations, also helps to bring the content alive. The BBC offers you a lot of support only in your placement but academically, so you really are set up to succeed.

The BBC is full of opportunities; not just professionally but also to learn and absorb. You will struggle to find anyone that doesn’t want to help if you ask. I took a chance and would encourage others to do the same because you never know. You have nothing to lose and potentially so much to gain!
