10 Reasons Why We’re Super Excited about The Girl Who Died!

The Doctor Who Team

The new episode is on BBC One on Saturday at 8.20pm and here are ten reasons why we can’t wait!

The Vikings are coming!

It’s the first time that Vikings have played such a central role in a Doctor Who adventure and although we’ll get the shouty, swordy, fighty Viking stuff, we’ll also see another side to them. And there’s one called Ashildr you should definitely keep your eyes on…

New monsters!

They’re huge, they’re scary and we’re guessing those guns don’t fire blanks. The Mire are the deadliest warrior race in the galaxy and they do not come in peace…

New Villain!

His name is Odin, he’s in charge of the murderous Mire and he shouts things like, ‘You fight or you die!’ Bring it on! Played by the brilliant David Schofield we reckon he’ll definitely be a baddie we’ll love to hate!

The Write Stuff

The ep is written by Jamie Mathieson and Steven Moffat who between them have a writing pedigree that takes in episodes such as Blink, The Day of the Doctor, Flatline and Mummy on the Orient Express. Oh, and a little show called Sherlock. So, fair to say expectations are high but hey, no pressure…

Facing the facts…

Talking of Steven Moffat, Doctor Who’s lead writer recently revealed that in The Girl Who Died, the Doctor will finally remember where he’s seen his own face before… We want to know more! Is it a link to previous episode The Fires of Pompeii? An adventure we don’t know about?

Humour

We’ll have all the drama and scares that new enemies and a seemingly impossible situation for the Doctor deliver, but there are some laugh out loud moments in the episode that we’re looking forward to. For starters, in the preview clip below we’re loving the Doctor’s expression when he puts his foot down…

Amazing Maisie

Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams guest stars in the episode and is brilliant as Ashildr, the young Viking whose quiet life is disrupted when her friends and family are attacked by killer space warriors. (Don’t you just hate it when that happens?) But she’s also back in the following week’s episode… How? Who knows! Maisie herself teased us by revealing, ‘I can’t say how, so you’ll have to watch until the end (of The Girl Who Died) where there’s a lovely little surprise…’

Pressing problems…

Sometimes preview clips are funny or intriguing or thought-provoking. Other times they make you shout, ‘Noooooooooo! What happens next?’ The clip below tumbles into that category. How do Clara and Ashildr escape? We demand answers!

Dragon’s Den..?

Doctor Who is made in Wales so it feels appropriate that at last we have what looks like an enormous, awesome dragon in the show, giving a whole new meaning to the phrase, ‘You’re fired!’

How will they do it?

The Doctor and Clara have 12 hours to turn a bunch of farmers and blacksmiths into a fighting force that can defeat a frighteningly powerful alien army that has just been declared war on. To be honest, we think they’ll find a way… but we can’t wait to find out how!
