Russell T Davies scoops Outstanding Contribution to Writing Award.

Doctor Who’s former lead writer and exec producer, Russell T Davies, was presented with the prestigious ‘Outstanding Contribution to Writing Award’ at the annual Writers’ Guild of Great Britain Awards last night (18 January, 2016) in London.

Russell was showrunner on Doctor Who for five years, exec produced Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures and more recently has turned his attention to Shakespeare… His new, 90-minute adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be screened later this year. Commenting on his award, he said, ‘For me, this is the greatest of honours, coming from fellow writers, and I’m enormously grateful to the Writers’ Guild – for this, and for the work it does for writers everywhere.’

The award was presented by Paul Abbott (Shameless, State of Play) and recognises Russell’s extraordinary body of work for TV, including Wizards vs Aliens, Queer as Folk, Cucumber, Banana, The Second Coming, Casanova and of course, his Doctor Who related series which began back in 2005 with Rose
