This year’s two Doctor Who Proms are happening this weekend but if you don’t have a ticket – don’t worry!
The first of the special concerts will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and we’ll be bringing you photos and reports from the Royal Albert Hall where as usual, the Proms are being staged.
The first Doctor Who Prom kicks off tomorrow (Saturday) at 7.30pm and is due to finish at approximately 9.45pm. If that’s a little late for you, BBC iPlayer users can catch the concert online for seven days afterwards and Sunday’s Doctor Who Prom (which will not be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3) runs from 10.30am to 12.45pm. The concerts will feature special guests from the world of Doctor Who - including Matt Smith himself - plus a host of monsters from the show. The music will be provided by the London Philharmonic Choir and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales conducted by Ben Foster.
As well as showcasing Murray Gold’s brilliant music from the past eight years, the concerts journey back to the early days of Doctor Who and the ground-breaking work of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. In addition to this, audiences will be treated to some classical favourites including the Habanera from Bizet’s Carmen, which viewers may recall featured in Asylum of the Daleks, and Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor which the Doctor himself played part of during Attack of the Cybermen!
