New Series: New Details!

The Doctor Who Team

The Doctor's new companion

Jenna-Louise Coleman (pictured above following today's announcements) has beaten hundreds of hopefuls to become the new companion to Doctor Who. At the announcement this morning, lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat commented "We saw a lot of brilliant actresses. But Jenna was the only person going faster than Matt - he had to keep up!"

It was also confirmed that we can expect six episodes this year including a Christmas Special which is when Jenna will make her first Doctor Who appearance, and a further eight episodes next year. "I want to get started already" says Jenna. "I'm a huge fan of the show".

It is not yet known how exactly the Doctor's current companions will make their exit from the show but Steven revealed that "Amy & Rory will leave in a final encounter with the Weeping Angels in episode five" and he continued with "Not everyone gets out alive and I mean it this time" - scary times ahead!

It was also hinted that the events to follow will build towards an epic, climatic 50th anniversary, but no more details were revealed today.

Please be aware that Jenna does not have a personal Twitter or Facebook account so be cautious of anyone pretending to be someone they are not. For the latest news follow us on the official Doctor Who Twitter account.
