The New Series

The Doctor Who Team

Filming is underway on the new series of Doctor Who

Filming for the new series of Doctor Who is well underway, so we decided to round-up what we know so far...

Insiders have promised us 'thrills, adventures and dramatic surprises... Fourteen big, blockbuster-movie episodes - each a brand new, epic adventure...' And the best news is that the new episodes see Matt Smith back as the Doctor for his third series of adventures in time and space.

Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill are returning as Amy and Rory although Steven Moffat has warned us, 'the days of the Ponds are drawing to a close... but then the Doctor will meet a new friend...' The details of how and when the current companions leave the TARDIS can be filed away under 'undisclosed', right next to facts about the Doctor's new friend!

The multi award-winning Steven Moffat is again lead writer and Executive Producer for the series, and this time around he's joined by Executive Producer Caroline Skinner who co-exec produced The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe.

The brilliant Marcus Wilson returns as producer of Doctor Who and filming began on February 20th with Saul Metzstein kicking off directing duties. So far we've had news about three guest stars, with confirmation that David Bradley, Rupert Graves and Mark Williams will all be appearing. In terms of monsters we can look forward to the perfect combination - some of the most terrifying enemies the Doctor has ever faced will be back, but he'll also be pitted against new nasties who'll certainly give the returning foes a run for their sentient money in the scary stakes.

It's recently been confirmed that Steven Moffat will be penning the first story of the new series and that Toby Whithouse and Chris Chibnall will also be writing episodes.

We'll be adding more information as it comes in...
