Why are we gushing about Before the Flood?

The Doctor Who Team

We loved Under the Lake and if you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favour and BBC iPlayer it! Next up is the spectacular Before the Flood which begins on BBC One at 8.25pm on Saturday. Are we excited? You betcha. And here are ten reasons why…

The Ghost Doctor – What? What! What?!

The moment we saw the ghost Doctor we were desperate to know what happens next… Have we glimpsed the Doctor’s ultimate fate? And does this make Toby Whithouse a ghost writer? (Badda boom!)

The Fisher King

The blurb for this ep tells us ‘a fearsome alien warlord - the Fisher King - sets in motion a twisted plan to ensure his own survival…’ Fearsome alien warlord? Why, just for once, couldn’t it have been a disarmingly genial alien warlord? Anyway... We think the Fisher King is the monstrous-looking dude in the trailer below and although we’ll be watching from behind the sofa, we can’t wait to meet him. What’s his plan? And is the Doctor really powerless to prevent it?

Corey gets Roary

Slipknot meets Doctor Who? We’re in! Producer Derek Ritchie explained, ‘We needed an awesome roar for the Fisher King. We asked Corey if he might like to do the honours. He was completely up for it!’ Sounds good to us! No, literally – it sounds good to us…

Far from hum Drum

The Doctor is in dead trouble (we’re hilarious) but Clara and co haven’t exactly checked into a 5 star hotel. They’re trapped in an underwater base that’s got homicidal ghosts on the loose and their biggest hope of rescue has just turned up which would be fab, except it looks like he’s carked it…

So, who’s next?

In the trailer below, Bennett demands to know, ‘So, who’s next?’ With the Doctor and two crew members already turned into ghosts, who’s next in the line? Lunn? Cass? Surely not… Clara?

Roll Over, Beethoven

Teasing this episode, Steven Moffat threw in the question, ‘Who composed Beethoven’s Fifth?’ So, our question is, what has the crazy-haired German composer got to do with the crazy-eyed ghosts in the 22nd century? We demand to know the score!

Wholly Moley!

It looks like we’ll meet Prentis before he died, which should prove something of a treat. He’s played by the brilliant Paul Kaye (Thoros in Game of Thrones) and is the same species as Gibbis, the Tivolian from The God Complex. He may not have been everyone’s choice as a roomie but he was a fascinating character so we’re looking forward to find out what the deal with Prentis will be.

Amour the Flood

Call us old romantics, but we reckon Bennett lurves O’Donnell and that Cass and Lunn should be an item. Now, in Doctor Who that could spell happily ever after in a cottage in the country or it could mean the kind of plot-line that tugs at your heart and forces you to pretend you’ve got grit in your eye…

Barney with Bennett?

Bennett was one of the Drum’s more timid crew members but he seems to be having a bit of a heated exchange with the Doctor here… What gives? What’s happened between the two of them? We can probably file this under, ‘What on earth has the Doctor done this time?’ and we’re looking forward to finding out!

For Pete’s Sake!

The guy that provided the voice of Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace! The actor that played Pete in Shaun of the Dead! And the one who played Denarian Saal in Guardians of the Galaxy! They all provide the voice of the Fisher King in Before the Flood and they’re all the award-winning Peter Serafinowicz! Bring it ownnnn!!!

And finally, here’s Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman and Steven Moffat introducing the episode… BBC One. 8.25pm on Saturday… We’re there!
