The Afternoon After The Morning After The Night Before.

Chris Evans|16:21 UK time, Wednesday, 9 March 2011

Woah! Feeling somewhat fragile this afternoon. The team won a pair of awards yesterday and the lunch where the awards took place evolved into a modest - yet nevertheless pretty purposeful - early evening soiree.

Thank goodness I've learned to leave the young guns to it. Even though I was in bed well before ten, boy you know when you've had a few drinks as you get older. The washing machine is no longer what it once was. No bad thing.

Christoph - well done indeed on the awards - richly deserved. Apart from the blimmin' horn-tootin' in the mornings, the show seems to be going from strength to strength. Hels Bells, can't you confiscate the darn thing?!!!

Thanks for the concern yesterday and I can report that I got home safely. Didn't eat anything until this morning when I nibbled on a piece of toast. That was fine, and have since had some tomato soup ..... all good methinks - phew!

Hope everyone's OK - KKS, hope the itches are easing ever so slightly!

    HEY CLP

I am confuddled about the washing machine - have the antiBs blocked my brain as well as my cough!?!

Just heard Peter Kaye on SW - I cant wait to see what he has done for comic relief this year, I still smile everytime I hear the elbow song and picture all the little cartoon characters waving their arms!

Right back to it - but from last blog - Baggy - awww tell us!!!!!!!

Jillygoat: good to see you are feeling better - bit of a day yesterday, eh?!

Debs: I do believe the delightful MrE is referring to his "system" not being as it once was ... or perhaps I have guessed that terribly wrong!

Maybe he means his digestive system - as in feeling like a washing machine.
That's what I thought it might be!

Sorry to put my two penny in ... very irregular blogger. But listen lots and love to read the blog and giggle at the tra la la that goes on between you all! Obviously not get when peps are feeling unwell though.

    Hope everyone feeling splendid today!

Well done Christopher and the team.
You all deserve it, you cheer me up enormously on the way to work.
With regard to drink and age - comes to us all sweetie. I used to have a social life but now I'm happy with a cuppa, my lovely hubby and a book. Bliss.
P.S. Got some chickens yesterday - only two ex-battery hens. Gertrude and Clarabelle. Poor things are all bedraggled but guess what, one of them provided us with an egg this morning. Poor girls - will look after them now though, bless their corn-pickin' beaks.
    Love to all.

Hello CLP (or is it now CE?) & Everyone.

Congratulations on the awards Chris! Well deserved too!

I bet you would have kept going longer at the do if it wasn't for the fact that you need to be up early. I know what you mean by the washing machine, you would have been left spinning and needing to dry out.

    Hope everyone's OK.

Hello CLP and the bloggers, and congratulations on the awards!

I only ever hear Pause For Thought on my days off, so I missed John Sentamu yesterday, but he has always struck me as being a cool guy.

Enjoyed the pub quiz the other night, we were on the winning team so am still savouring the sweet taste of victory! Looking forward to a day off tomorrow, nothing much planned, will see how the day pans out.

Hope everyone has had a good day, and that those who have been ill are feeling better

Well done to you and all the team! It always sounds like you're all having such a good time although I agree with Jillygoat - someone take away that horn!

Rosie, if you want to see the thought for the day, go to Shows tab at the top of the page, then click onto the show for the day you want to see and the thought for the day is written out there

Does that make sense? Sounds a bit waffley but hope you know what I mean

Baggy, what you up to? When will we find out? 'Citing this!!

How are all our spotty people and coughy people and other generally poorly people? I hope you are all feeling better

For your eeuuww moment of the day, i give you my drive to a meeting today. While we were driving my collegue took a phone call from her other half to tell her that the rather nasty sounding boil on his nether regions had, indeed, now burst!!!

Well, its late and I have just got home, but I just wanted to drop by and share what I have just seen.

I have done my usual round and also had to go up to Bristol to take my GD shopping, I think the cupboards were almost bare!

Coming back through the Quantocks tonight, I saw the usual herd of deer crossing the road and dipped my lights and sat and watched them for a moment or two.

This is a road that unfortunately carries a lot of heavy lorries, especially in the evenings.

So, once the deer had gone out of sight, I moved on, only to brake suddenly as three small creatures lolloped across the road.

I was so startled at their appearance that I even shouted out loudly.....

    'Otters!'

In all the years that I have spent looking for them out on the levels, they suddenly appear not that many miles away from where I live and also not that close either to a major water source!

I am absolutely over the moon and couldn't wait to get home to tell everyone.

Unfortunately, my lot are all in bed, so I thought I would come on here to share but sense that maybe everyone on here has signed off for the night too.

    Ah well.

    Happy Days indeed :)

  • Comment number 41.

Hi MTF, I'm still lurking. I love otters, and although I've never seen any in the wild, there is an otter sanctuary near me that I visit every year, when I just stand for an hour or so just watching their antics. Wonderful!

Have had a few deer cross in front of me recently too and had to swerve to avoid a pony in the dark the other night. Scary moment that was!

Lovely to see you at the weekend, the cake was fab too (yes, it's gone already) lol

    Night night, Lin xx

  • Comment number 42.

It was lovely to see you too Lin.

Quite what these 3 otters were up to, I have no idea, but I am buzzing from seeing them.

Oh, an update on the slaughtering of the swans on the Somerset Levels...

Three people ( I wont call them men!) have been arrested on suspicion.

Lets hope, even if its not them, that it leads to the conviction of whoever it was.

    MTF.xx

  • Comment number 44.

    Morning!

Hey MTF now lovely.... Ohhhhhhhh how lucky to see otters!

Shame you didn't have a camera.

I must have looked a right prat a couple of weekends ago. I'd set up a tripod to photograph snowdrops and in the first midday warmth of sun a butterfly appeared. I spent about half hour chasing him from one stop to another but it wasn't warm enough for him!!!!!! He kept moving!

Hope you see those otters again!

Why do people attack swans? I heard of that happening in this area, Berkshire. It was ages ago though.

  • Comment number 45.

aokay, because swans are evil, although you would be brave enough to attack one? they can break a mans arm you know! Seriously I come from Berks and the ones on the thames in Reading are particulay nasty!

Your late this morning Baggy not seen you yet !!

    Bids.xxx.

  • Comment number 47.

Baggy ,there you are .Morning .xxx

  • Comment number 48.

    What! Evil Swans...
    I think you misunderstand them!
If they are attacking it is only to protect their eggs or goslings or nest maybe!!!!?

But I have had a swan confrontation myself while on the canal tow path on a bike. This swan put up a barrier and wasn't going to let me pass. Wings spread and if I approached too close some flappy and spitting and hissing. Luckily a few minutes later another cyclist came along and he held up his bike and got me to pass behind him and then did a 180 degree on the swan and on we went. It was the fluffy baby goslings that was the cause of the stressed beautiful swan!

Have you seen Black Swan the movie... a bit of evil in that but spectacular! Go See it!
    Beautiful Cinematography

Came in this morning in a good mood, the one girl who for some reason I'm letting get under my skin has upset me with an email she sent last night and now I'm trying to calm down and be rational before she comes in else i will thump her.

Why do people have to be so petty and judgemental? She laughed at me yesterday for not knowing ASOS, a clothes shop? that isn't even important! But she is the queen bee here and thinks she can boss me around dispite the fact that she isnt even qualified yet and seems to ahve no life plans other then become a kept women by her very rich boyfriend.

MTF - how lovely to see those otters, and great news that someone has been arrested for the swan attacks, I think I've told you this before, but we used to have 2 big white geese and they were vicious, I was absolutely terrified of them and boy did they know it, they terrorised me at every opportunity but I would never have harmed them in any way, we eventually gave them away to a farm park where they still live, terrorising people there!

    Have a good day everyone.

    - and morning Aokay & Myra, welcome .....stick around, we like you!

MTF - we have a boat on the Norfolk Broads and often see otters in the quietest spots (and not in high season!). Also, we hand feed the swans off the back of the boat & they are really gentle, they seem to know you mean them no harm. Mind you, it's a bit different when you're on a tow path & 'threatening' their family!

    Morning peeps,

It was a wild and wooly night last night last night here in Edinburgh, it's dry now and hopefully it will stay that way, but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't usually encounter much wildlife on my drive to and from work, but on Sunday morning I had to swerve to avoid a pheasant. Not something I'd expect to see in the middle of Edinburgh, but apparently there are some in the Botanic Gardens.

Continuing on the otter theme, apparently one has been spotted on the Water of Leith, which runs through Edinburgh:

Would you believe there have been otters seen near us Up Darn Essex!

Loved the Horrible Histories Man this morning - my favourite charater on the show is Caligula! You know how he was a little bit mad? Imagine him re-imagined for 8 year old boys - hysterical!

My policy is always to be as nice as I can to people - what goes around, comes around you know!

And did you know that in some distilleries in Scotland use geese instead of guard dogs?

Good to hear someone's been arrested for shooting the swans though. However unfriendly the birds might be, there is no excuse for cruelty!

I don't usually go for the new potions advertised on the telly but had a cold sensation (tickly throat and back of nose) before a four day course and tried 'First Defence' and it worked and kept it off for the whole week. Only works if you use it at the beginning or on first show of possible cold, I think, though.

Country Girl - swans on the broads sound fab!

I have a couple of old photos from the 60's of a brother on the norfolk broads holiday... I'm not sure if he went for the country scenery and wildlife or, by the look of the cool little rectangular blue sunglass and grin, the norfolk girls! Ahh maybe both! Hee Hee!

  • Comment number 67.

Just passing by to say thanks for all the comments re the otters.

Aokay, I did have my camera with me, but it was a case of slam on the brakes, sit and gawp in amazement, shout out 'otters!' at the top of my voice and then they lolloped off into the woods.

I am never one to miss a wildlife photo opportunity, those on fb already know that :)

Rosie, lovely otter video. I have googled the otters and the region that I was in last night and apparently they are doing very well there. Isn't it a case of missing what is right under your nose? Maybe they are just clever enough to not be spotted.

Gail, we are getting a bit of a battering down here too, although it is supposed to calm down later on, the plus side is that it is a southwesterly, so blowing in a bit milder air.

I am going around with my nose in the air at the moment, not only to try and avoid the aroma of the delightful doings that the farmers are busy flinging over the fields, but to try and see any early returning swallows. I spotted one in Portsmouth on Sunday, but as I said it was heading South so may well have changed its mind!!

mtd, good luck with your exam tomorrow.

Sezza, I like your policy, and think you are spot on with it.

Get well wishes to those that are not 100%, I have heard some very good comments about first defence, one of them from a Doctor no less.

Susan, I hope you have a wonderful birthday.

If I have missed anything/one out, well thats me, hopeless at individual remarks.

I have now got to go and fill in some lengthy forms for Gds digs for next year!!! They want the money up front as well. Time to empty the penny jar!!

So, Happy thirsty Thursday one and all, cue new blog!!!

    Hiya

Aokay - interesting about the rhinititus - think that's close enough - but I think he has A Cold. Or possibly The Plague! He is Struggling On though!! ;-)

Wish it would go away though! Probably too late for the first defence now :-(

Debs, intriguing!! I'll have to wait until I get home to see. How is your new, slightly nomadic, work life going?

MTF, hang on tight there today!

AF, you can have a big hug! The best thing is we never run out of them! There are always enough for everyone whon needs them. You're another who's been poorly for ages haven't you? Take care lovey, get well soon

Things to love about Radio 2 - nowhere else would you hear Jesse J followed by Babara Dickson then a discussion about getting the foot prints off the tall boy after swinging on the chandelier!!

I thought my mind was feeling random!

    Hi everyone:

Happy Birthday Susan! Hope you have a really lovely day. Perhaps a new handbag as one of your gifts?! xx

MTF: loved your otter story - sorry I have missed you, again!

Rosie: isn't it a great feeling to win a pub quiz? They are SO competitive! What an incredible story about the Otters - just lovely.

Annie: oh, please, no more snow!

Lyndyloo: so lovely to see you. I really miss you! Wonderful to know that you are so happy with your little boy. xx

kks: really hope you are on the mend.

Debs: good to see you are feeling better.

AF: yes, of course, you may have a hug! Delighted to hear that Master Vicks did the trick! Last night, just before I went to bed, I sneezed about 10 times. Uh-oh, quick thinking, use some Vicks. Woke up this morning bright and breezy! I just swear by the stuff!

    Hope everyone is ok.

    Hello Everyone.

I've just arrived back home after going to the shops in the strong wind and rain. The rain had stopped when I arrived at the supermarket and so I left my scooter outside uncovered. When I came out I found that there had been a very heavy shower and the man who seels the big issue had moved my scooter undercover for me. What a lovely thoughtful person he is, unlike some of the impatient shoppers inside.

Now awaiting my home delivery which includes the fresh bread I've been having each night for my supper since Chris's 'Bread of Heaven' blog. Last time I bought the long French baguettes which were a bit rough on my teeth and so this time I've got a pair of white bloomers which have far less crust.

Will there now be a new blog!

    Hiya,

I tell you, this working for a living, is really eating into my blogging time, this week!

kks: please take care, you are not a well bunny, still. xx I think Chris may go for CE - variety is the spice of life!

Annie: it's been awful, hasn't it?!

Just a wee update re: Mary. She is doing really well, but her eyes are not healed yet, so she is off work for the rest of the week. She is feeling fine though, no pain. Her eyesight is still blurry (to be expected) so she can't use her laptop because she would have to strain her eyes. She asked me to say that she is aware there are messages waiting for her when she can see clearly, and she thanks everyone for thinking of her. xx

    Back to the coalface!

Good news about Mary, tell her I'm thinking of her. Know what you mean about working for a living - have been cross-eyed cross referencing all my lot's work - all bloomin' day. All unpaid hours, and there's still loads to do. I'm not going anywhere near it till Sunday.

Not long till you can switch off and go home.

Well, managed to get home in record time today - 30 minutes door to door woo hoo. Hairy scary on the motorway with the high sided lorries though - tis a bit breezy up here. And now I see some poor soul was killed by a blown over lorry in the centre of Leeds, and another further north on the A1 in a multiple pile up. So I'm glad to be home safe, and hope everyone else is too xx

Chrissie, thanks for the Mary update - glad she's doing well, though I bet she's impatient to be able to see properly again!

Maddy, that was lovely of the Big Issue seller - it's nice to know that there's still that thoughtfulness towards strangers out there.

I've started watching The Boat That Guy Built on the tellybox. A Lincolnshire lad |(apparently a part time motorcycling person) and his mate who are fitting out a barge using technological inspiration from the industrial revolution. Not my usual tasse de the, but he's such an engaging character and it's had me laughing out loud with delight at his obvious joy in what he's doing. Marvellous.

And then tonight I channel hopped and landed on Top Gear with Michael McIntyre. He was telling a story about being in a rubbish car and trying overtake a posh car on the motorway, and Jeremy Clarkson was literally crying with laughter.

Just another little thing that made me laugh - it really is the little things :-)

  • Comment number 92.

Must have had the wind behind you AF. Those high-sided lorries scare me stupid on the bridge. Now there's no tolls to stop them they chance their arm against the advice of the motorway signs. I'm scared to overtake them, specially in the middle of the bridge where it's really blowy.

Maddy, I'm really impressed with the Big Issue sellers. Most of them are so polite and friendly - apart from the one in Dunfermline who I'm sure is 'at it' - the minority who spoil it for the majority.

Chrissie - no, have stopped doing the voluntary work, I haven't got time these days. This unpaid work today was for my 6hr a week job.

    Hello everyone,
Hope everyone's AOK. Bit blustery here in Anglesey but nothing like further up North. Never mind, Spring'll soon be here although I thought it had arrived up until yesterday.
Just a quick updates both my new girlies are settling in nicely - just trying to bid on E... for a hen house for them. Think the horse box is just a bit big. They seem a lot happier and provided us with another egg this morning (well, one of them did anyhow).
I was quite put out last night when I got home. Hubby was cooking supper as I was late home from that place that must never be mentioned, and on walking into the kitchen, I was horrified to see that he intended to eat the two eggs provided by my girlies (chickens obviously). How could he eat these little beige pearls so lovingly provided by the girls.
I was most put out until he promised me that he would go outside to the horse box and actually thank the girls for their contribution to his supper. Felt better then. He thinks I'm absolutely barmy, and to be honest I think I may be. This middle-age thing is not all it's cracked up to be - keep expecting my life to start as they promised (life begins at 40 yadda yadda yadda). Well, I'm still waiting and I'm 52. Well actually no, I'm 48 because I said that once I got to 50, I'd start to go backwards - which I do. So eventually I'll get to 16 again, but I'll have the face and body of a ....... ummmm, I was never much good at maths - quite an old lady.
Shucks - depressed now. Where's that Snowball!!!!
Going to make an egg-free supper now - keeping today's contribution until my youngest daughter comes home from holiday on Sunday. She'll probably eat them all too.
Does Mr. Evans not blog every day then or maybe he's busy putting the little one to bed - bless his heart.
If anyone sees my marbles rolling about the floor, please save them for me as I seem to have lost them.
    Much love - chuckle.

    Evening all

I have a theory about clp's blog absences - they are being used for his Sunday column. If you read the first one last Sunday, many of the bits could easily have been blog entries. That having been said, I did enjoy reading the column and will read it again (online of course).

Onto our favourite subject, I am sorry the weather has been less than clement for those of you who live north of me. It's been quite pleasant here, if a bit chilly. We are forecast heavy rain for Saturday though and guess who is going to the barnet fixers? I suppose I'd better park in the multi storey then I can at least get to and from the salon under cover.

Well I have done some revision (not all day though) and I hope that I am prepared for the exam. Fingets crossed as they say on the other side of the fence.

    Have a lovely holibobs Lindy.
