And Now Please Welcome - My Old Boss.

Chris Evans|11:50 UK time, Friday, 4 February 2011

Geldof on The One Show sofa tonight. Bob used to own the company that produced The Big Breakfast. He was my boss for close to three years. He is a complete force of nature -a man like no other. Supremely confident on the outside, though I very much suspect not so on the inside.

Perhaps that would be a good question to ask him.

It's important to ask Bob the right question first, as you probably won't get a word in after that. Tune in, BBC1 7 p.m. to see what happens.

France for me tomorrow. Bon weekend toute le monde. A bientot.

Hi Chris: yes, there are lot of people who seem very confident. But when you get to know them, you find they, too, have their demons they carry with them - just like the rest of us! Looking forward to tonight - I absolutely love Bob Geldof!

Cloud+ will be set for Sir Bob as Nic is taking me up the local for a bite to eat tonight to mark our 1st successful year of living over the brush!

Yep, love the guy (Sir Bob). My first pin-up from Look In Magazine, oh so proud with all the Band Aid stuff, and absolutely gutted when he married Paula Yates. I agree Chris - an amazing force of nature, particularly the way he has behaved since the world lost Paula and Michael and his taking on of Tiger Lily as if she were his own.

Please, please say Hi to him. From me. And thank him!

Deevs, Banana Republic takes me back to a very happy time in my life.

Carefree days, no responsibilities, not that I would change what I have now, but oh, just to step back for one day!

    Have a lovely time tonight.

Im on venison burgers tonight, the very one that I turned my nose up at last night.

If I am to drum the 'no waste' policy into the rest of the household, then I must follow my own guidelines!!

However, I am home alone tonight, so no-one would really know if I were to frisbee it over the hedge for the foxes :O

I've got that on 7" single in the loft MTF! My faves have to be Rat Trap, She's So Modern and Someone's Looking At You. As for his solo stuff, you can't beat a bit of Great Song Of Indifference. UToob it if you've never heard it before - tis fab!

Venison Burger sounds lovely. We had venison at Christmas and it did itself proud - we eventually got 12 meals out of it, including a remarkable Venison Curry (Nics own recipe). Stunningly tasty (that's the curry AND Nic ....)

If I'm eating at the pub tonight, so the calories still count or can I have a night off for good behaviour? (lost 4lbs so far in 2 weeks).

    Hey ho!

I will have to watch The One Show by other means, as I know I will be late back tonight.

Deevs, I love venison, but not that struck on it as a burger!

Ooh and btw, I took the GD to the eaterie that is part of a group ie the one that we ate in after the Bye bye Drivetime Show, they only had 'Mabel' on the menu??

Obviously they had other stuff too, but I was so tempted, maybe next time!

Hello everyone from a very blustery and wet Ayrshire.

It was great, I got to hear most of the show this morning as I was taking Ellie to the vet's to get dressed, told them at work I had a doctor's appointment, David Walliams sounded great, a really lovely guy. That's also the first time since before Christmas that I have heard the Candy Man!

The wind here yesterday was absolutely awful, when David and I were out with the dogs in the evening, as Chrissie said, there was a real danger of actually being blown off your feet.

Hugs to everyone who needs them, and everyone who just wants them.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

Listen up - the royal wedding couldn't be better timed - it's a bank holiday sandwiched between Easter weekend and the May bank holiday. If you take the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as annual leave you'll get an eleven day stretch off work. The country's going to grind to a halt, but we'll have a ball, especially if the weather's good.

Just a wee story - last night I was heading home, thinking about how much I have to do at home, because I am hardly ever there at the moment. Got on the wrong train! The doors closed, the train moved off and I was on a train bound for Edinburgh! Got off at the earliest possible station, had to take TWO other trains to get home to my wee town. I had left the office at 5.30 and got home at 8pm! Needless to say, the chances of doing any housework went out of the window, and settled down to have a chat with MrS with a glass of red in hand! Afternoon peeps
Deevs & Nic - Happy Anniversary.

Chrissie poor you on the journey on wrong train. I had a beggar of a journey home on Weds. What is normally an hour's drive turned into 3 & half hours! There was an accident on the A5 between Telford & Shrewsbury so we were sent on a detour. Nose to tail crawling along at practically no miles an hour! The clogged bit and detour that normally takes 15 mins was 2 and 3/4 hrs and once back on the clear road the rest of the journey was the usual 45 mins.
As the detour takes you along the 'old' A5, for the second time in a week I drove passed Wroxeter!

Just spent ages on the phone to phone provider to report what I believe to be a faulty line - all crackly and staticy! Not the line madam but we will send an internal engineer to see if your socket in the property is at fault. £49.99 if no fault found - how does that work?

Windy and cold today. Next door has had a fence panel blown down and we have got various plastic plant pots and buckets etc now lodged under the car!

Almost got blown off my feet when out on the field with Honey, and I take some shifting, let me tellk you.

    Stay warm abd safe, peeps.
    ttfn, Crumpy xx

  • Comment number 46.

    Crumpy.

I had trouble with my phone provider a short time ago. The line was dead and so I reported it via my mobile phone.

I was told to check internal sockets and wires which we had already done, then told to use another phone to check if it worked, bought one and did this. After a lot of exasperating phone calls, holding on etc. they said they would send an engineer. He found it to be the outside line (which I knew all along) and he repaired it.

I thought that was the end of the matter until I received my phone bill. I had been charged £150.

I was so angry and was determined that this money should not be taken by direct debit. I complained until it was making me feel ill and have now given up.

These large companies should not be allowe3d to get away with this. I remember when a friendly engineer used to call even if it was the internal line.

    Hiya

Everybody haning on tight I hope! Ain't it windy out there!

Have read and thought of several things to say but forgotten them all now! D'oh! It's been a long old day hasn't it!

One thing I do remember is about that wedding and the extra bank holiday

I think if yours is a company that normally closes for all the other bank holidays then they will probably do the same for this one unless they tell you otherwise

If you work in a business that is usually still runs on bank holidays like shops, restaurants, call centres and you are normally expected to work your shift if it falls on the BH unless you book it off as annual leave, then it will probably be the same for this one. When I worked in a supermarket, we had to book the bank holidays off if we wanted them but this was reflected in the amount of leave we got so they might give you some extra time off

Mr Sezza's comapny have decided to work on Good Friday, carry that time off over to the next week, then they are shutting down for the whole weeka and it's only "costing" 2 days leave

Life was so much simpler when work was 9-5, monday to friday and no one worked on bank holidays!!

Evening CLP and bloggers out there,

Enjoyed what I heard of David Walliams co-hosting this morning, and the One Show tonight. Bob Geldof does seem to be a thoroughly decent bloke, comfortable in his own skin, and worthy of respect for using his fame to try and do good.

Another wet and blustery day in Edinburgh today, though it seems to be calming down now. The bins had done a dance round the drying green last night and a shed next door has been flattened, but it didn't look very sturdy in the first place.

29th April is my rostered day off, but as I work in a tourist attraction, my workplace will be open that day, and people working that day will be on overtime.

Hope everyone has had a great day

    Hello,

Just got home , been to the Trafford Centre after work. JG, wasnt that traffic bad tonight, Mr Mc tutted, and huffed and puffed for almost an hour, I was worn out and had lost the will to think by the time we parked up.

Maddy, I upgraded my mobile just before Christmas, a simple little procedure in the shop. Sign contract, get new phone in box and off you trot . My bill has been the size of a small nations debt, due to them messing it up and crediting and then re messing up. Each time i ring the unhelpful line, I feel like I have aged ten years, and my blood pressure is through the roof.

Anyway, thanks for all your comments re the bank holiday. Will let you know the outcome when we are duly informed.

Chrissie, re your train journey , that happened to me years ago, read the monitor above the platform and hopped on. Five minutes later I am on a fast train, no stops in between, to someplace miles away. When I got off, the transport police tried to accuse me of fare dodging !

  • Comment number 53.

    Evening all

On the public hol in April front, I've been told that if I want it off it comes out of my annual leave entitlement and that unless a law is passed between now and then it doesn't count as a bank hol. The company I work for operates in two halves, and some of the staff work bank hols and others not, I usually get bank hols off, some of the lads don't and this just creates extra work for us in the office before and after bank hols as we have stuff to do before they go out, and more stuff to do after they get back. As you can imagine Easter is therefore a nightmare generally, and the fact I always want the weekend after Easter off (for something I've been doing for years which is always on that weekend) is enough of a hassle without throwing a public hol and a bank hol in the week after. Funnily enough I'm being made to feel more guilty than normal about my need for time off this year... Doesn't help that really we need another team member as even with us all doing 5+ hours overtime a week we can't keep up when we're all there, so holidays create a back log. Pity the management haven't twigged this yet, although it's probably a cost cutting thing not taking on someone else.

Anyway, tis Friday, I'll forget about the grindstone for a couple of days. Have been a good girl and done as many household chores as possible today so I can have a day off tomorrow. Was thinking of going out for a long walk (fresh air to do me good and all that) before going out for a meal tomorrow night, but the forecast doesn't look too promising and I'm getting the urge to find out what the light is like for sewing here, so I might just do that instead. Oh and reschedule the eye test I carefully booked last weekend, for a day when I'm over 100 miles away. Honestly, if I had a brain cell I'd be dangerous!

Hugs to anyone in need or want of one. (Baggy, I too could do with your diet, but am more prone to Deev's version, take care and get into that dress)

    Afternoon all

Day off from housework here. Have been really lazy and have only just gone through the shower routine, spent the morning pottering round in my pjs, but decided as it was gone 12 it might be an idea to shower before finding some lunch, partly because I suspect I may have to go out to get some of it! The cupboards look a little bare (well there's stuff in there, but not stuff I want to eat right now, tell me I'm not alone in that feeling).

Hope no one has been blown over/away in this gusty weather, I've been watching a lamppost from my window and it's been flexing rather, not keeled over yet...

I know exactly what you mean about having stuff in and not wanting it!!

I think I'm going to try and make some soup out of the bits and pieces of vegetables I have in the bottom of the fridge, and see if that helps me get my appetite back!

Hello , just in the midst of decorating the living room. Have got myself covered in non drip gloss. Got a severe attack of cramp when doing the skirting boards and i seemed to touch just about everywhere that had been painted. Never have i so looked forward to getting back to work . Right offto get my orders from mr mc .xxx

MC: I'd be joining you in looking forward to being back at the grindstone after your morning!

JG: Glad I'm not alone, really fancied brie on toast, have brie in but no bread. Village shops shut about 12 on a Saturday so I've saved some pennies and had cheese and grapes for lunch instead. Slight variation on my dream! Will be off into town in a bit to meet a friend, so will collect milk and loaf there and do a proper shop another day. Brie on toast for lunch tomorrow ;)

Well, it ended up as carrot and coriander soup, as I didn't think sprouts would mix in too well ;)

Plus, listening to Urban Hymns by The Verve.... I'd forgotten how good this album is...

    A good Saturday :)

    Afternoon each

Saw Sir Bob on the show last night - I just love him.

Will be cheering on Scotland tonight (think I might be on a loser though).

Hope everyone is well and keeping out of the icy rain.

Back later when I've caught up.

Ok, caught up and have loads to say to everyone, but I've forgotten - Bums.

Chrissie - nightmare train journey, you poor soul.

Deevs, congratulations for yesterday, and hope you're feeling better.

JG, enjoy your soup. I made potato soup yesterday - not as boring as it sounds as it has paprika, mixed herbs and caraway seeds in it (Cranks cookbook). Man in the cupboard stayed over last night. I'm just home after dropping him off.

Was there no FNWC last night? All your posts sounded really sensible.

    Thanks for the reminder Annie.

Have just watched the One show.

Not too sure whats going on with your hair Chris? Still, I have always said that if you have a dream then you must follow it, so good on ya.

How cool is Bob Geldof, I swear that trampoline was older than him!

He's also put me on a mission.

Contrary to my build, I used to be a a top trampolinist. Competing in the Welsh Championships and winning as a team and gaining second place as an individual.

At my best, I could do full twisting back somersaults and double backs too.

Bob made it look so easy. How I would love the courage to have a go, unfortunately, responsibilities here prevent me from being so daring, oh and a small weight gain matter too!

Maybe its something I could aim for, watch this space!!!

Coming back down to earth, Keith the not so big un, if you are reading this, I hope your opening show was a good one. I cant wait to see you all on stage next weekend.

I have achieved the grand total of zilch today, in fact I couldn't even muster up the enthusiasm to make a 'to do' list, which in hindsight is probably just as well, as I would be feeling guilty right now for not having crossed anything off it.

Still, I think we all need to have days like this now and again. Recent events have been a bit hectic after all.

So, just making a nice plum sponge for pudding and its Scampi and new pots for firsts.

I love Saturday evenings. I wonder what is on the box tonight?

Mt Mobs will decide of course, once he gets hold of the remote, its channel hopping galore!

Talk of the devil, he has just got home, best look busy.

    Hi

Well the soup was lovely, I've had two bowls full, and still loads left. I think I put too much milk in though, well for my taste anyway.

MTF, it's good to have days like that, recharging the batteries and all that!

Annie, you'll have to send me the recipe...

Well, himself is watching Star Wars, I hope it ends soon ;)

Glad you had a nice meal.

We have got rain at the front of the house and bone dry at the back!

I would love to see the display MC.

Lets hope it improves for them.

We have one of the biggest carnivals in the world in Bridgwater, but its always in November and judging by the early winters that we are now experiencing, I wonder if they ought to think about bringing it forward slightly.

    Morning all

Today I am the proud owner of an adult! GD is 18 today!!!

We had a fun lunch with her mates, then I came home and watched the horse wisperer - what a lovely film, I had no idea it had scarlet johanson in it and then promptly fell asleep on the sofa again - a reccuring theme this weekend!

Catching up with chores - my weekends need to be more focused now - no fluffy "working from home" days for me anymore - yikes! Waiting in for valet man to come and clean the inside of my car which looks like the previous owner lived on a farm and transported animals/goods in it!

Then sunday roast waiting in for GD and Boyf to come over to open presents and drink champagne.

    Oh thats the life hey!

    happy sunday everyone

    Morning,

Really only came on here for a shameful plug, so my apologies. After yet another wonderful holiday I thought it a shame that I had no outlet for my budding travel journalistic streak so have jumped on the blog bandwagon

    https://wildcat241.blogspot.com/

please feel free to read, comment, criticise. I would be interested in you feedback.

One thing that I failed to comment on was this...

Why is it, as the holidaying man gets older the trunks get tighter? And the bigger the woman, the smaller the bikini?

I'll leave you all with those images in your head!

    Afternoon all

Brie on toast next on the agenda :)

Lovely evening out last night with good grub and friends, had a friend stay over afterwards so not an awful lot of kip had, but up again for the usual Sunday activity which we both share, and we were early! No walking yet today, the rest of the gang have wussed out for various reasons, and I'm wondering if I'll blow away out there if I go on my own, although I don't think the wind is quite as strong as it has been. I've been back in busy bee mode after my lazy day yesterday, the car has had a wash and vacuum out, I've done the weekly shop and the washing machine is currently doing some of its share of the household chores. Just need to wash up before anyone else wants a drink, as we seemed to get through a few glasses last night!

Hugs to anyone in need or want of one (or more)

JG: sorry, didn't mean to. I've stopped for now. This afternoon's aim is wash up (have ignored that so far and sat down with lunch) and to finish the Danielle Steele book I started a couple of weekends ago. Then if my mate wants it I can pass it on this evening (she collects them, I don't).

Thanks JG and Bids. I do enjoy writing, but rarely do so - well, except for work stuff, application forms and essays about puppy training. It feels good to put a memory down in a permanent form, hence why Errol spends a lot of time with his photos. Maybe we could start out own travel mag together?

Anyhoo, thanks for reading. It is appreciated greatly.

Today sees us going through our 'wardrobe'. (A couple of curtain poles for hanging stuff and a great big mountain of clothing kept in no order at all!) We have a pile for keep, sell and charidee. Our next big purchase is one of those sliderobe things. They look fab, but are really rather pricey. Still, you get what you pay for, right?

Best get back it, just seen a favourite top go in the 'sell' pile...

    MW, a!

  • Comment number 94.

MWa: I have clearouts like that every once in a while. Last done about the time I moved 3 months ago, so it can wait for another couple of months before I try it again. I need a bigger wardrobe really, although I can never find anything to wear ;)

Objectives for this afternoon achieved. Washing up done, book finished. Next on my list is to track down my sewing stuff (it's in a box somewhere round here ;) ) which hasn't been out and in use since I moved. Seems I have an order for a 2nd birth sampler, well it's hardly fair that big sis gets one and new addition to the family (due in July) doesn't. I think I had slightly more notice about big sis's arrival though, and it was a challenge to do hers in secret in time. So now the question is, do I do the same design in different colours (with it's own set of unique sewing errors, trust me, there's plenty in the last one) or do I find another design of a similar size?

If this is Spring, for one day only, then I am loving it.

The birds are singing their little hearts out, washing is on the line and both bunnies are stretching their legs in the garden for the first time in months.

Still a tad breezy, but warm breeze which is fine by me.

How's the weather in other corners of the country?
