Lurgy Day 4

Chris Evans|12:12 UK time, Thursday, 14 October 2010

Saunders back behind the mic today after his day off with the runs. I'm getting better (I think), Lynn is getting worse, Selina still immune!

Have no idea what lurgy this is, all I know is that it's very good at making us all feel very bad.

In other news, very few tissues left around the building after the constant footage of the heroic Chilean miners yesterday caused floods of tears - for all the right reasons.

Off to do a voice over now, next to my favourite pie shop. Is it ever too early for a pie ?

Life just keeps on getting better don't it.

I was going to go into town to see if I could get a copy but a chunk of Bedford town centre has been closed for a security alert (did you hear it on the Traffic?!). I'm wondering whether to try the supermarket but I'm not sure if they will have it.

Anyhoo...Chrissie S - thank you for the clarification yesterday I was a little baffled hehe.

Hi Chris: yes, you have all really got this pretty bad, poor things. As for Jonny, what a huge effort he must have made to get back to work today - he's a wee pet lamb. Chris, the show today was just utterly brilliant. Every day is a joy, but today's just worked so well - IMHO!

Christoff, get the pie down you before the voice over!

I watched much of the Chilean miners footage, very moving indeed.

Hope you all feel better soon.

Chrissie, yes he is enjoying it. It was funny to start with; he arrived on stage limping and pushing a walking frame, assisted by two ‘nurses’, he then threw off a blanket covering his very colourful stage gear and the place erupted with everyone singing happy birthday. He did a few oldies, with a twist. The second half he changed into a 3 piece white morning suit, very suave, but it set the scene for some big band numbers, which IMO he carried off to perfection. He had no supporting act, and was on stage for 2 and half hours with a just a short interval. Very entertaining, very professional and I LOVED it. As did my GD no 2 and she’s half his age!

    You did ask!!

BTW, If you’re wondering who the friend request on FB is, it’s me!!!

    Hello Chris.

I'm so glad you're feeling a bit better but forget using tissues. What is needed is bog rolls all round. It's so much more economical.

As for pies. YES! I might just have pie and chips for my tea today.

    Afternoon CLP & ALL...

CLP - Yes I heard this morning you mention Jono S has had a most nasty stomach bug!!!!!
I feel for the man.... It goes to show even top sports operatives that are mean't to be the highest of health & fitness that well all look up to can succumb to the ill health!!!!!!
Glad Jono is back at work & feeling better!!!!!!!

Must admit.... with all the illness yer all suffering... it makes me wonder what Richard Madeley might have been bringing inter yer studio????

Maybe it's a ploy ter get yer all off air so he can take over the morning gig, not just part time... but full time!!!!!!!

Must admit ave always like Richard & Judy!!!!!
But ave often wondered why is Richard Madeley not Richard Finnigan or Judy Finnigan errr Judy Madeley???

Life is confusing... which brings me to Part 2 of me story!!!!

I'll bang it on in a moment.....

    Part 2:

On the 6th day, I recieved a phone call from Lena.
She sounded upset & said she won't be able to see me at our agreed time but she will see me later in the afternoon.
I asked is she ok. She told me her fahter has been taken to hospital & she is with her mother there & waiting for news.
Later I met her & she told me the bad news.
Her father was rushed into hospital in the early hours & is in a coma & her mother has been told, by the doctors, he has days to live.
He had liver failure & caught hepatitus of which she did tell me, during our months of corrospondance, he had been in & out of hospital alot but recently he had been allowed to go home.
She said even though her family had been told he maybe only has a year to live, she was brushing it under the carpet & being optomistic.
I didn't know what to say.
I asked do you still want to go out for the evening.
She said yes, it will take her mind of it.
But as the evening went on, I could tell she wasn't herself. She had changed, was quiet. Seemed to often be deep in thought.
After a strained evening together, she finally told me she now realises she can't leave Ukraine, she is all her mother has & she has got to look after her.
She was in tears telling me... and she thinks I should look for another woman.
I couldn't believe it.. I didn't mean to sound selfish, but we were falling in love... everything was going so good & now she suddenly realised she can't be with me as her mother needs her.
I said i'd wait for her, until things improve in her life... It's not a problem for me to wait until things settle down.
But it was no use... it was definate her father will die, maybe in a matter of days.
And being an only child it was only her who could look after her mother.

That evening I went back to my appartment alone... I prayed so hard for a miracle her father will surivive... And that all would turn out good in the end for her family & for us.
I phoned her, but she said she can't see me... it's over... I could hear her crying on the phone... and I had tears sreaming down my face too!
That night I didn't sleep at all... in fact I cried all night... why, why am I destined to always be alone I asked myself.
So many thoughts poured through my head all night.
Why does something always come along to end my relationships... the most bizzarre events happen!
It's like i'm cursed... i'm 37 & can't take being alone anymore... I need to find a wife... I need a family... it's what being human being is all about. We all need someone to love, to recieve love & to have a family. It's what life is all about. It's what a man needs to live for. To provide for, look after his wife & family.
Yes I know people in other parts of the world have it far harder than me. Some people have bad health... limbs missing even for example.
But this is what frustraits me, I know I am lucky & have a lot going for me & would make such a good husband & father.
But what am I mean't to do: Just shrug my shoulders & say it's ok... I don't mind living alone until I reach 80 & then I pass away.. still alone as I am now?
No I cannot accept this!! I need someone.... i'm not mean't to be alone!!!
My mind was racing... my emotions in termoil!!!
What hurts is i've tried for years & years & years to find my other half... but never does it happen!
I know men are not mean't to cry. I don't cry often... but that night it all just became too much for me. I cried the most i'd ever cried.
It was too much despair & pain for my heart about four times previous that I split up with a woman & said then I couldn't take anymore heartache!
I just contemplated everything, life... what's it all about... why am I here if i'm never allowed to find the happiness I need so much.
If someone keeps having the same thing over and over again happening to them... how long can they keep believing/ pretending that one day it will all be ok.
I know we all have failed romances, relationships & pain in life. But continually.... I just can not take it anymore.
Then to taste love, something that I dream so strongly for... to finally find it. But then as soon as I do... Again it goes as fast as it came.
Why am I only allowed a few days of happiness then again like every woman i've ever known it is snatched away from me.
I thought why is god testing me so much... why do I have to suffer so much?

I just was not strong enough this time to get through it... I needed something to help me.
I don't need drugs or anti depressants to help me I thought. I'm not clinically depressed. I like life & see the brightside of most things in life.
I'm more positive than most. The strange thing I see so many people who do have all I dream, a wife, family, nice house & car, good job. Yet so many go through life without a smile each day & seem to get sucked into the negative. Wound up daily by trivial things.
All I need is to end my loneliness that I can't bear any longer.
I decided, even though for years I have not been to church..... I have to go to church & pray for help, for strength to get through yet another faliure in my what seems like cursed love life.

    On tomorrow's blog... Part 3!!

    Bye!

The fact that my book is a true story & i'm living through the book... I don't know what the ending of my book will be... Will I find love or not abroad or anywhere!
Either way it should be an interesting read if not very painful for me to write in certain parts!

One thing a thought... knowing my luck with women... i'll met my dream, get married etc... Me book will come out & be a best seller... me new wife will read all... get jealous & divorce me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aka me book could be me down fall!!!!!!!

It's all too much for me mind all... all too much!!!!!

Anyway... just came on ter say forgot ter mention before:

Great to hear the Chilean miners got out of the BIG hole they got themselves into!!!!!!
A heard on the Selina Scott MEGA news this morning, on CLP's most friendly radio show, that they are all in very good health except for dental infections!!!!!!
Looks like they are going to have to go through more cavity problems & need a bloke with a drill ter sort them out!!!!!!
At least the dentist's drill will smaller than the one that got them out!!!!!!

Also while am on the Bingo News Bulletin about present news.... A hear LFC are still trying ter get themsleves out of their own hole!!!!!
Aka break free from The George Gillette & the other bloke (fotgot 'is name)
Ave noticed since The Gillette took over LFC.... There's alotta men with beards (and th eodd woman too)in Liverpool!!!!!!

    Hello.

Chris, we are the same here, all passing the bugs round and then adding a new symptom of our own, so that by the time you catch it for the second time it has mutated into something else. My symptoms for the day are a gravelly throat and shivering - tomorrow, who knows?

And you're so right about feeling fine at work - as soon the adrenalin kicks in when I get to school I'm fine, actually in overdrive, but I'm no good to man nor beast before and after.

Mind you, as I see nearly 700 children a week all told , I've been lucky so far. There are all kinds of evil lurgies out there in School-land.

Maybe its dependent on who the publisher is Annie?

Years ago, before Capt Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp used to make amazing fillums but they weren't shown in every cinema - usually smaller independent cinemas as opposed to the massive "£10 for a box of popcorn" chains. I remember going to a right flea pit in the back end of beyond to see What's Eating Gilbert Grape and Benny & Joon. Apparently that was all down to who made/distributed the fillums.

I'm sure CLPs book will be Kindleable soon.

Good morning everyone from a very overcast Ayrshire.

Still dry here thankfully, I have said the horses will start coming in at night on the first wet night and since I said that every night has been dry:)), that's when the hard work starts until at least the end of April, but I must admit it is lovely to see them standing cosy in their stables munching hay at night!

I had to laugh at CLP asking what people do when the kettle is boiling in the morning, I don't actually boil the kettle in the morning but I do have porridge every day which takes 4 minutes in the micro (2 minutes, stir, then another 2 minutes), during the first 2 minutes I put the velcro rollers in my hair (Hilda Ogden eat your heart out), then during the second 2 minutes I put my mascara on, therefore no wasted time for me.

    Have a great weekend everyone

Baggles, at least once you are out of the office you will have time to take stock and attack the job market full on. That's my beef at the mo: I work a 40 hour week so any interviews have to be taken as holiday or sickies and I can't make phone calls during the day as my office is open plan - and by the time I get home, all the recruitment peeps have gone home too.

So here we are: Friday at last. It's been a tough long week and I can't wait for tonight: Get the weekly shop out the way, dancing with my man and then wine, cuddles and tellybox.

Just had a rather heated "discussion" with my colleague regarding the internet/FB etc., she thinks that people like ourselves who blog are sad and should "get a life", she thinks that FB takes the personal touch away but I said it was quite the opposite as I have met loads of friends and gone to meets through it, I also have friends who have made contact with people they hadn't seen for years through the internet, I personally think it is great, just because she isn't into it at all she thinks it it a bad thing. I used to hide the fact that I came on here and fB from her, but had to tell her because we were going to all the meets and the questions were too difficult to avoid, goodness help me if she ever found out I go on Twitter as well, I must admit we disagree on quite a lot which can be a bit uncomfortable since it's only the 2 of us in the office!

    Thanks for "listening".

Baggy - good luck on your last day at work today - I'm sure it'll be a huge relief to get out of there! Then at last you can have a really good push at the old job-hunting - it's always difficult trying to arrange interviews etc when you're in work - as Deevs is finding at the moment - so good luck with it all.

Deevs & Baggy - someone out there deserves you both x

    Hi everyone:

Isn't it wonderful that it's Friday??!!

Annie: just in case I don't "speak" to you later, hope you have a really wonderful holiday with your lovely family.

Gail: I know what you mean about opposition to the blog and Facebook, etc. My sister thinks I am completely mad being on this blog and thinks I am a nutter for attending blog meets. I have given up trying to make her see that it's been wonderful to meet new people, and to make some very special friendships. There is no doubt, of course, that out there in cyber-space there can be some dodgy characters, but where the blog is concerned I think we are just a great bunch of people!

Gingembre: I have been meaning to say to you (and emma-m): well done!

MC: excellent news that you have a new plumber - hopefully your nightmare will be resolved soon!

JG: hope you are feeling better.

Sorry, I didn't make my usual list while reading through the blog, so hope I have missed anything too important.

Have a good day, everyone: not long until 5.30pm!

    Good Morning Everyone.

Much cooler here today and I think the winter has arrived.

What I do in the morning while waiting for the kettle to boil is feed the two cats and give the squirrel some nuts.

Gail-My neighbour (who's now moved away:( ) used to give a look which said "have you lost your mind" when I spoke about the blog. This is the same neighbour who was knocking on my door all the time asking me to retune her TV when we went digital. She's knows nothing about technology at all and is not as intelligent as you or I.

Baggy-Walk away with your head held high knowing that you have done well, have a rest and then find a job worthy of you.

    Off to the shops>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Gail - it's not always easy sharing an office with someone else, is it?

Many years ago I shared an office with someone who used to slam her desk drawers whenever she was either stressed or angry - which seemed to be almost every day(!) - which used to make me jump every time ..... then there was the noisy food that was consumed at her desk on a sort of 'grazing' basis. I swear I've never heard anyone eat crisps so loudly!! Add to that her really loud conversations with friends and family, it's a wonder she ever got any work done. Hey ho!

What's everyone up to this weekend? We're off to see John Bishop in Reading on Saturday evening - it's my birthday pressie to 'im indoors and we've decided to stay overnight to make a whole weekend of it. We might pop into Windsor on Sunday - perhaps Her Maj will be in and we can have a cuppa.

    Afternoon,

Dozymac, well done you , on the multi tasking whilst your porridge is cooking :-) Loving the bit about the rollers !.

Jillygoat, enjoy John Bishop, we saw him last year and he was hilarious.

Baggy, good luck, I just cant help wondering how long your replacement will last before they realise what you had to put up with. A leopard dosent change it's spots . ( i think thats the way the saying goes !! )

Chrissie, Hiya, hope you are ok.

Right, here we go, another boring cheese buttie ....

Woo Hoo! We're going to see John Bishop in December and I can't wait!

MC - my replacement at the company I left in Coooooolchester when I moved here left the job last month - we've been in contact via email and she just couldn't get on there. I think Lady Boss was too much for her!

This weekend I am having nmy nails done tomorrow and then going to my first solo football match - Hednesford Town are at home and its within walking distance of the house!

Sunday - chores, homework and stuff. Hoping to fit some fun in there somewhere too .....!

    Hiya Deevs,

Wow, thats a quick stint in the hot seat then.

JB was very very funny, you have to "tune in" to the accent though ;-)

Enjoy the footie . I am gym-ing tonight, I drove past it last night "by accident" , and couldnt be bothered to negotiate the one way system to go back.

my lovely neighbours are home tomorrow after a month down under. They will be met by a mountain of junk mail. I have really missed them.

Due to escape from here in 3 hours ..

It's all started really well for me - my new Company car arrived this morning.......all glistening white and ready for me to play with this weekend. Trouble is, it's raining & I live on a farm...... hmmm, that'll be 'mud splattered white' soon then!

Oh, and it's getting close to the time to pick up the new kitten - 2 weeks - really looking forward to that too.

Am so glad it's Friday even though this week's gone really quick for some reason.

Baggy, Hope you've had a good last day - never mind if your replacement is ready, take the time for yourself and do what you need with it.

Deevs, it must be so tough for you but keep going - you'll get there!

Have just unwrapped a package from a certain big river company, now time to start reading!

Just having a wee catch up:

Jillygoat/Jollygit: I absolutely love John Bishop - he is such a sweetheart. Hope you have a great time, and wouldn't it be fantastic to have a cup of tea with the Queen? She must be fascinating!

MC: how lovely that you have such a great friendship with your neighbours. Our neighbours across the road from us are so lovely - we plan to meet them in the local pub for a lemonade in the next week or so!

CG: very exciting about your wee kitten. I am so envious - I don't think we will ever be able to look after another kitten (our hours are all over the place) but they are (in the main) all gorgeous!

Scoobs: always lovely to see you! Sorry you have to work tomorrow - most Saturdays, I spare a thought for you! Would join you in a cup of tea, but would much rather have a glass of wine later ... what else is new?!

    C xx

  • Comment number 92.

Hey Chrissie...I am having tea and biscuits now but will also definitely be joining you in the wine later! And thanks for the Saturday thoughts..mostly doesnt bother me cos done it for forever, and i know lots of people work shifts etc but just some Fridays it would be nice to have 2 days off together!

And MC..good neighbours are indeed amazing... did you organise the shower room thing around their hols or was that just a coincedink?! Glad it`ll all be sorted soon!

    Custard creams....yum!

I`d love to learn to dance... have a bit of rhythm and would like to tame it somewhat(!).. i even promised to not step on his feet! His reply was `but i can dance darling!`...well yes, i KNOW that but jumping around to AC/DC and headbanging to Guns n Roses is NOT the kind of thing i had in mind...*sigh*...!

Dance lessons and having a colour other than beige on any wall in the house are my 2 current objectives in life...!

    Good afternoon blogettes

It's cold, dank and dismal here near Chester. Off to the pub tonight (as usual) to meet our friends from t'other end of village. Neighbour across the road is away all weekend - have her key and have been entrusted with her precious plants - no pressure then ! She quite a plantswoman and my heart is always in my mouth whilst she's away in case I kill anything. Not got a good record with plants. Hamsters I have an even worse record with !!!!!

Great week with the miners all being rescued.

Deevs ............... seem to feel the 'old' Deevs is slowly reappearing. Keep up the good work !!

Have a good weekend one and all.

Yes, slowly but surely .... still have my moments of self-doubt and crippling depression but on the whole, life's good.

An hour of this prison left, then it's the weekend and 2 days with my man, aka he what makes me smile loads and feel more loved than I have EVER felt in my life.

    :-)

And he doesn't tread on my toes when we dance!

    Hi All

Glad I appear to be right Deevs. Won't see much of my man this weekend. He worked all last weekend and this weekend as well. Rush job on @ work. He's full of cold (sorry ......... man flu) this week. Even been the docs and been given anti biotics and an inhaler. So he really must be ill.

Was busy myself last weekend so house needs a good seeing to. That'll keep me busy as well as murdering neighbour's plants. Keeps a girl off the streets dontcha know.

Enjoy FNWC - I'll be raising a glass of bitter at our local later.
