Our whistle-stop tour of some of the projects being supported by BBC Children in Need continues with a trip to Derbyshire. Following the massive success of the 2012 Appeal (when over £26.7m was raised on Appeal Night alone), we're delighted to be able to announce that in the first 'grant round' of 2013, BBC Children in Need has awarded £136,103 to projects supporting disadvantaged children and young people in Derby.
One project in Derby currently being supported by BBC Children in Need is G.A.D Khalsa Girls Football Club which encourages young girls to play football, offering weekly training and education relating to positive effects of sports to improve social and emotional involvement within the group. The club also encourages peer group development and invites role models within football to meet the members.

Amongst the projects in Derby receiving grants in this round is the St James Centre which has been awarded a grant of £10,000 to run a youth club for one of the most ethnically diverse parts of the city. The project will offer a range of activities which will enable young people to have a better understanding of growing up in the UK, support their education and build confidence in understanding life in Derby giving them the chance to make new friends and relax away from their families.
