We’re heading back over the sea to Struay for a brand new series of Katie Morag this February – and for the first time ever, the series will be shared between CBeebies and CBBC so that children of all ages can enjoy Katie Morag’s adventures. We talked to CBeebies Head of Scheduling, Angela Griffiths, to find out more…

So where and when can we find the new series of Katie Morag?
The brand new series of Katie Morag launches on Sunday 1st February at 9am on both CBeebies and CBBC. Eagle-eyed viewers may have already seen episode 1, which premiered over Christmas and is still available on CBeebies iPlayer. If you missed it, you’ll be able to catch episode 1 again on CBeebies at 8:45am on Sunday 1st February, just before the series launches with episode 2 at 9am. CBBC will then be showing the third episode in the series straight afterwards, at 9.15am (but you can always wait to watch it on CBeebies on Sunday 8th at 8.45am if you prefer).
What can we expect from the new series?
Expect more fun and excitement with Katie Morag as we return to the beautiful island of Struay. The familiar characters from Series 1 will all be there, with both Grannie Island and Granma Mainland inspiring Katie’s adventures across the island. Expect dancing classes, carrot-growing competitions, the mystery of buried treasure, and all the drama of a thrilling, edge-of-your-seat shinty match! We’ll also be meeting some brand new faces – Katie Morag gets a new friend when a Hollywood celebrity floats into Struay, her singing uncles make a rare return to the island for a special concert, plus there are other family surprises in store when she gets all “Who Do You Think You Are?” and starts delving into the McColl family tree. And look out for a double-length special episode coming later this year!

Why did you decide to show Katie Morag on both CBeebies and CBBC?
Good question! This is the very first time CBBC and CBeebies have commissioned a series together. Katie Morag proved very popular with the older end of the CBeebies audience first time round, so we felt that the series could equally find a home on CBBC. We think it’s a great way of introducing older CBeebies viewers to programmes that are appropriate for them on CBBC, as we know when children turn 5 or 6 they begin to develop their own tastes and like to have a bit more independence in choosing what they watch. With this in mind we want to help make this transition between CBeebies and CBBC easier, so we’re starting to share programmes more and talk to the CBeebies audience about programmes they might like on CBBC.
What other shows would you recommend on CBBC for children who are moving up from CBeebies?
Other than ever-popular animations such as Scooby Doo and Shaun the Sheep we’d really recommend some of our factual programmes such as How to be Epic at Everything, Officially Amazing, All Over the Place and the Deadly 60 programmes. You can explore them all on CBBC iPlayer.
