The blistering hot summer of 1976 was dominated by one song:

Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Elton John & Kiki Dee although looking back at the charts for 76 ther were some stunning records about at the time.Pity I was immersed in Prog like music..

I spent a few weeks in Toronto (which was very clean and had an integrated transport system that worked) where it wasn't quite as hot as it was back home.

Because it was the summer and everyone was away, I didn't celebrate my 21st until October, by which time If You Leave Me Now - Chicago was number one.

This tweeting lark isn't working out. I had two shouts ignored tonight, particularly 'Satellite Of Love' which I was keen on. When there was uproarious celebration for the intellectual brilliance of the same shout from a texter, I tweeted to point out it had been reqested on the blog 18 hours earlier. It didn't help anything.

Perhaps my new standard tweet greeting of 'mon cherie' is, as feared, being misunderstood - but I feel I have to try to entertain my solitary unknown follower.

Of course, maybe every show is now so busy (which is great) that expecting anyone to pay attention to the likes of us is too great an expectation.

#10 I like both of those suggestions! and don't take anything too seriously - if your song was played and you never got a mention, bear in mind there are plenty of other listeners who have never had a mention - you have AND at least you got to hear something you wanted to hear when they played what you asked for.

#21 - you don't have to be right in the heid for this programme - they seem to understand that normal joes alone don't make for an interesting show. But I'm a sycophant, so I would say that. ;o)

Made a pleasant change from Christmas or novelty records on my birthday.

When I discovered what was number 1 the chart released just before my birthday I went to the chart day after in the hope for something better but it turns out that Spitting Image's 'The Chicken Song' was number one both weeks ......... but then salvation:-

Bryan Ferry + Roxy Music's first ever Ferry/Roxy combined compilation was number one in the album charts for 5 weeks and either side of my 21st was week 4+5.

Would love Get It On to play 'Sign Of The Times' from that album.

Ah! there's a shock - my solitary follower has been replaced by two new followers, giving me a total of four (two heritage followers form my first attempt in 2009).

Yipee!

I'll need to get the deliquent up to my office to take a snazzy looking photo, like the one our hero has, and start addressing the world with 'Ah, Mon Cherie' and very short comments since that reduces the available characters by about 14.

I gave up on twitter in 2009 because even Stephen Fry sounded inane - but hey - this could be fun! Let's give it a go.

April 9th 1971 T.Rex were number 1with "Hot Love".Boy,I hated that song.Sounding just like there previous dirge "Ride A White Swan".Tony Visconti's sawing strings and Flo and Eddie's endless coda of lalalala did my head in.That same year I was at a rock festival in Weeley ,Essex and top of the bill was..T.Bloody .Rex!Also on the bill was King Crimson and Barclay James Harvest complete with orchestra.Yes, Prog Rock had truly arrived.Same year Carole King's "Tapestry",JoniMitchell's "Blue"and James Taylor's "Sweet Baby James" were released and I was happy.Touching on that ,I watched a BBC4 doc on the famous Troubador Club followed by "Tapestry" revisited or something.Good as "Tapestry"was methinks she has been riding on its coat tails ever since.I cant think of anything interesting she has done since.Anyway,Back to my 21st NUMBER 1,GET IT ON(Oh no,another T.Rex. song):o) Cheers,Willie BARTKE

Ive got a theme suggestion songs with Nana and/or Hey in them in loving memory of my wee Nana Cissie Hay who died 15 years ago this month miss you Nana Hay she was so rock and roll and as a pensioner never thought anything of climbing along the window sills form her neighbours tennament flat because she got locked out she was 2 storeys up!
