This song, written by the late Turner Stephen Bruton, is my very favourite for several reasons, one of which is the killer line

On a personal note, “Live Like You Were Dying” by Tim McGraw. I will be cancer free for one year in March. The song made me think about how I want to live for the rest of my life.

Lyrics that changed my life? Struggling with this one.

However i can think of a song that by chance started a chain of life changing events. Many years ago I was hosting a family fun night in a local community centre and someone came up and asked for ''I am the music man'' by ''Black Lace''. So when I put it on they came back up and started chatting and gave me the number of an entertainment agency which was looking for DJs karaoke presenters and stuff. So i did bits n bobs with them inbetween my own stuff and it was through them I first started hosting pub quizzes. It was at one of my pub quizzes I met my future landlord who found a flat for me when my marriage split and it was also through the pub quiz scene that i subsequently met Imelda. None of that would have happened if I hadn't played Black Lace that night. So lyrics that changed my life? oompah oompah oompapah oompapah oompapah.......






No I don't want it played. I'm in enough trouble with the blog as it is.

I am tremendously tickled that, admittedly as a joke, reproducing the lyrics for Starship Trooper by Yes has been more than enough for the moderator to step into the role of censor.

I know that GIO hate prog rock but it's just meaningless mumbo jumbo, not indescribably filthy, and applying the moderator to take it out is taking things a bit far, don't you think?

It really does make you wonder how Ross & Brand ever got on air at all?

My life-changing event was having a stroke at the age of 35. It made my wife and I re-evaluate our priorities so I can relate to the sentiments in Tim McGraw's song (#16). However, the song that helped my recovery is 'Something Inside So Strong' by Labi Siffre. Although it was written as a protest against apartheid I think that it has an inspirational message to stand up against whatever adversity is thrown your way.

Listened to Harry Chapin doing 'Cat's In The Cradle' the other day, and it certaily made me think about spending more quality time with my two wee girls. The fear that they turn round years later and say 'you never had any time for us, dad!

Yes, I can identify with that - my dad worked away a lot when I was little, and then did Open University most evenings for a *long* time.

I stopped working away nearly 3 years ago, having done it for 10 years while 3 children arrived. Fortunately, wasn't actually away when any of them were born (bar literally out for 10 minutes collecting #2 when #3 arrived very quickly)

To be (almost) serious for a moment, a track that had a profound effect on me as a teenager, and stopped me being a mopey git (and therefore saved me from having a stereotypic Smiffs phase) was

These are the lyrics that definitely changed my life. Up until I heard them I wanted to become an astronaut. Bennie Hill showed that being a milkman was much more fun so I decided there and then to contact the nearest dairy and give it a go.

Never looked back, I've seen many changes in milk delivery, who remembers those daft plastic sachets and the even dafter pourers. The cardboard cartons that the milk flew out of when you tried to open the spout and now back to plastic bottles. The wonders of modern technology. But the one constant has been the wummin. (mmmm - Maybe I should have asked for Willie & Julio "To all the girls I've loved before

Just driven back from a meeting in Edinburgh listening to James Grant's 'My Life In 5 Songs' on the way back in the car.

You couldn't help but be impressed by his honesty and realism about things.

And, funnily enough, it is one of his songs that is one of those that struck a chord with me when I heard it.

I'm kinda with Paulo, I don't think lyrics change your life but they can be heard in particular ways that are relevent to what you are living thorugh when you hear them and become a placcard for what you are feeling or experiencing - they appear to be personal and become anthemic to you in some important way.

This blog has a few marriages under its belt and I found the fact that my marriage was failing a tremendous shock. In reaction presumed I it must all be my fault, blamed myself for everything and resolved to try and get it to work out. I did this tirelessly for about 18 months, but the truth of the matter was, that although I couldn't see it at the time, the marriage had died the day our daughter died. My ex, particularly, just never felt the same, somehow - I later read infant mortality does that.I don't know how I felt but, inappropraitely, did the stoic bloke bit - buried myself in my work etc.Quite idiotic.

I had taken it into my head during these 18 months that my own feelings were supremely unimportant. One Saturday I walked into Fopp and for no reason at all bought Love & Money's 'Dogs In The Traffic'.

When I heard You're Not The Only One I suddenly realised that I couldn't bring the dead back to life: that my fear of the unknown was in fact less dangerous than the mediocrity I was putting myself through.

Days later, I was out driving on business and passed a block of new build flats in the West End. I turned the car and drove back - got out and went to the portacabin site office.In exchange for a tenner the girl agreed to hold the last flat for sale until I tidied up the paperwork.

Although it would be too much to attribute this lyric to that change, it probably crystalised something that was building inside me anyway - it just verbalised an emotional turmoil to a point of resolution.

It was long ago and far away but it taught me a valuable lesson:if at first you don't succeed, try, try again - then give up, no point in being an idiot about it.

And it was the right decision - I'm happily involved with the love of my life, Smiffy.

The track Your Not The Only One is quite slow, but it's very radio friendly - its not a show opener, but beautifully crafted and I feel certain people will listen. Been requested a few times - would be good to hear.
