I did not google my list!

I did use Google a couple of times, especially for the Presidents one last year, but I do prefer to come up with tracks I want to hear and that fit the theme from memory.

Having said that there is nothing really wrong with a spot of Googling as long as it's not taken to excess. I can't see the point of simply listing tracks that fit the theme but that aren't necessarily any good... At the end of the day the show producers won't play them!

I sometimes do a sneaky mini google which is to put for example "get" into my windows media player and see what pops up. I recently got a mp3 player dont know if you can do it with that or not.

I have downloaded 2 songs and to be honest dont get it - whats the point of paying for the downloads, you dont get the artwok, lyrics etc and have nothing tangible! Bring back C90 tapes!!

The benefits of having music digitally don't really kick in until you've got a fair amount digitised, and you suddenly find you've got near instant access to pretty much any track you like.

And the potential for creating mixtapes (hey, isn't that what GiO is?) without spending hours fiddling about with physical product is fantastic. And expanding that to use metadata is just greeeeaaat.

For example: I have approx 72hrs worth of 80s music. To dig up something that tickles my fancy is pretty easy: filter all those I've rated 3/5 or higher, and play the 100 tracks I've listened to least recently in a random order. Instant "Now that's what I call 80s".

Or, use a playlist of lounge music to feed the background music for a party, but explicitly control the order, and every now and then chuck in something very left field.

Or, in 2 seconds flat, find every song with the word "Get" in the title; sort by rating, and that's my first long-list for Tuesday.

May I humbly suggest for Monday - Joan Armatrading 'The weakness in me' - killer lines all the way through, and always takes me back to the same place - a rocky shore in West Wales with tears in my eyes. Magic!
