Still to think of my (small but carefully crafted) lists for Mon,Tue and Wed but am putting in an early comment to remind folk that John Cougar/Mellencamp/Cougar Mellencamp has recorded other songs worth hearing apart from "Jack and Diane". "Hurts So Good", from the same album, has hand clapping in it I think.

She regularly uses hand claps, as well as using her body and voice, to provide the percussion in her music which is great to listen to and fascinating to watch being performed.

For Monday clapping songs has to be Lambchop "Up with People". I was lucky enough to see this live at the South Bank a few years ago now with the guys from Calexico helping out with the clapping, it was a brilliant night and this was one of the amazing highlights.

RoxyJohn - thought the Roxy Music Story was excellent it must be great to be involved in work by artists that you love. The guy who runs the Josh Ritter fan site has ended up doing some backing vocals on his last album! As an aside am I the only one who thinks Ferry was just about the only artsist not to use Live Aid as a way of plugging his back catalogue Sensation and Boys and Girls hardly being the big hits!

Cat Stevens was another one I grew up listening to. Luckily I had an uncle who had floor to ceiling shelves of vinyl that he allowed me to play at will. I hold him completely responsible for my varied music taste today (although, I am now strangely drawn to those 'AM Gold' compilations!)
I'm thankful I was turned on to this show. It's like having that good homework assignment you always wished for in school and gives you a chance to rediscover old favourites. Looking forward to the coming week!

It must have been cold in Air Studios when Roxy Music recorded 'Stranded' as there are claps on both 'Mother Of Pearl' and 'Street Life'. Street Life had the added bonus of finger clicking too at the fade out

Got to be Roxy's 'Ladytron' how weird did they look on The Old Grey Whistle Test in 1972. Not Many songs got rock oboe on them.

The day before BF's 63rd birthday and it seems my request for a Roxy related night is not on. It could have been fun as there are so many artists Ferry had coverd that the originals would have been part of the show as well as the people who have coverd Ferry/Roxy. Therefore it didn't have to be BF all night for those who couldn't stand the sound of what has been described as a voice like Edith Piaff riding a bike over cobbles.

For 'sleep' it has to be Simple Minds 'Big Sleep' I used to play this in one of the first bands I was in when I had more hair and less chins. And not to be stuck for a Roxy/Ferry track Bryan Ferry's 'Smoke Dreams' It was a left over track from his As Time Goes Buy album and was used on the Goddess Of Love CD single.

Julie - Good shout with the Pluto Shervington track. You threw me for a bit cos I knew them as 'The Spirit Of Reggae' - Not all of his stuf is all that great (not a massive reggae fan) but 'Dat' is one I remember well as even charting in the UK. Lyrics are funny too!

Vic - dinnae fash yersel aboot nae kennin Pluto Shervington - I would challenge most people in the UK nowadays to have come across him - and you are young enough to be totally excused! LOL

Jim: "Your Honour" got to number 19 in the charts in 1982. It's not an outstanding track, just a pleasant enough, gently funny wee song. I wouldn't say he's the best reggae artist either, but the song title fitted the bill. "Dat" reached number 6 in the charts.

EC: I'm still wanting the Tamzin Archer track you suggested to be played tonight, and am resisting all urges to suggest further sleepy tracks (even something from System of a Downie) :-)
