Dimitri From Paris' Essential Mix

That time was a transitional one between acoustic club music (mostly Disco and Rap) and electronic (Boogie, Electro-Funk then House). My new compilation "Knights Of The Playboy Mansion" (with Bob Sinclar on Defected) narrows in on this same period of transition and its current legacy. I approached this Essential Mix the same way with a strong focus on actual songs (not dubs) and variety, a reminiscence of my original radio programs.
Hope you enjoy it, let me know what you think on this blog

And the moral of listening to this is mix for me was: if you think that you really know the eighties, just pick one of Dimitri's mixes. And then you'll realize that you really don't. :O)
Thanks!

The March 18 Essential Mix is even better than the first one, everytime I listen to your mix, it is like a trip through the real music, whatever it deals with disco/funk or house music.
Among all these DJs who started in the 80's and who are now qualified as "superstar DJs", you are the only one who stay a "real DJ" just focusing on good vibes and real music.
I know almost all the tracks of your playlist, but you own this rare skill to re-edit original tracks to make it sound like a new track or to select the best remixes for others artists, that is the reason why your mix knocked me out!
The two First Choice re-edits and the Sinnamon Moplen re-edit are very good to hear! I love as well the vocal Purple Flash!
Hope to see you soon back at Djoon... :-)

An education and a pleasure.
As an aside, why can't we hear decent soulful and eclectic house music like this anywhere on the BBC? Aaron Ross was buried in the middle of the night on 1xtra and even he was canned. Anyone care to explain?

Like a lot of people nowadays, I have the software on my PC that allows me to record any streamed music I like, very much like I did years ago with a tape deck, so I can listen to my favourite mix as many times as I like.
However, as I have occasionally played some of those old Essential Mix tapes from days yonder, the one thing that sticks out more than anything is the fact that there were hardly any interruptions at all. In fact, I counted; and there may have been Pete Tong saying "You're listening to the essential mix on radio one" maybe every twenty minutes or on the half hour. Now, and particularly on this Dmitri mix, there were a total of 18 interruptions of various sorts played in amongst the mix with some of them lasting a minute or more. These interruptions seriously impair the quality of the mixes and no serious DJ would add these distractions if they were playing at a club or venue.
I presume in these days of thousands of radio stations that the BBC may feel inclined to add these distractions in order for the casual radio tuner to be able to identify which station they are listening too. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if a lot of listeners switched channels fairly promptly to listen to a station that doesn't have these interruptions like I have found myself doing over the last year or so.
I would be disappointed, but not surprised, if the BBC one day axed the Essential Mix based purely on a drop in listeners which I think would have been partially caused by the interruptions in the mixes.
