It's Essential Mix Of The Year time again. Just pick your favourite from the ten below using the link here and at the bottom of this blog.

Pete and the Essential Mix production team have debated and argued their way to a shortlist of the following ten All two-hour mixes broadcast between January 1st and December 11th 2010 were up for consideration.

Picking out ten was a tricky task and the standards were incredibly high! In the end, the mixes that made the shortlist were the ones that used the two hours to full effect, taking the listener on a creative, coherent, flowing musical journey.

The most popular mix will be broadcast in full at 3am on Christmas morning. Good luck choosing a winner!

Four Tet
A proper musical journey which joins the dots between jazz, dubstep, house, techno and more without ever losing its flow.

Jack Beats
A big, bouncing mix from the kings of wobble. Clipped beats and throbbing basslines rumble underneath bleeps and vocals.

James Zabiela
A lush soundscape which cleverly weaves in, and takes inspiration from, Duncan Jones' movie Moon.

John 00 Fleming
An homage to the roots of dark room trance-out music. John masterfully blends melodies and keys, adding live synths along the way.

Magnetic Man
A future facing dubstep blueprint from the celebrated supergroup which caused a huge stir when it was first broadcast in the summer.

Nero
An epic mix of dubstep, drum & bass, house and techno by one of the BBC's Sound of 2011 artists. Its a deep and dark soundtrack full of menace and melancholy from beginning to end.

Netsky
A deep and soulful drum & bass mix with slick quick fire mixing and bags of energy.

Pendulum
The biggest drum and bass band in the world used all their live know-how to put together an epic set that runs through tempos and genres without ever stalling.

Swedish House Mafia at Creamfields
A blockbusting festival set from the biggest dance trio of 2010. This essential mix captured The Swedish House Mafia's infectious energy in the red hot atmosphere of their own arena at Creamfields in August.

Wolfgang Gartner
A high octane mix which manages to cram in over sixty tunes without ever sounding crowded or losing its direction.

My favourite mix of the year was John '00' Fleming, in which we were presented with a much less well known side of trance with dark brooding tunes which still managed to keep a high tempo and sound melodic at the same time. It had me from the very beginning to the end, which is very rare for the whole two hour show so I'm glad it made the list at least.
Having said that, I can see the list is full of some very good mixes - they weren't all my cup of tea but thats what I love about this show, theres something for everyone. Good luck to all the artist who have made it and thanks to them and to the essential mix team for all the great work they've put in this year. This show is the only unmissable thing for me on TV or radio, and I hope it will be for many years to come.

What no Basement Jaxx or Breakage? Probably my 2 favourites this year, but out of the options I'd say John 00 Fleming, Netsky or Pendulum... Pendulum because I didn't like them after In Silico but now I like them again.

Yes I agree with Edward B 15 dec 2010, how on earth did they not include John Digweed is beyond my comprehension. ???
