Che - che- che- changes...
So as you may or may not know, the Radio 1 specialist schedule has been changed resulting in a different timeslot and a slightly different music policy for my show. In a few months time, I'll be moving to Friday nights on Radio 1 and playing the best of dance music and indie music in 'Annie Mac's mixtape'. I'm really happy to be moved to a Friday as I always thought that our show was much more suited to the weekend and I'm happy to be able to branch out into Indie music aswell. I love indie music, I love covering for Zane on his show and I think with the right programming and love and care put into the tracklists, this new show can be something really really special.
I've already had some distressed messages about the fate our our beloved minimixes. I can't promise anything yet but I think the minimix is one of the best things that the Thursday night show has to offer and I'd like to think it could translate to Friday's easily.. Bloc Party minimix anyone?

I'm happy for you to be on Fridays...the show always seems like a party, so will fit right in at the weekend.
As long as you get the right mix of dance beats and great indie music, i'm happy :)
Complain about this postHonestly? I i'm an indie freak, and i dont mind good boppy dance music - you know the type with a bit o vocals, but Friday's no good to me.
I get a takeaway (including Ben & Jerry's) then get comfy to watch John Wayne movies!
You could put ALL the programming and love and care in the world into it - but not on Fridays!

Complain about this postI don't mind the sound of the new show but I like the kind of emphasis you've got at the moment - there's already a lot of indie stuff on radio 1. And also, Colin Murray doing specialist stuff? He's alright but surely there's more suitable people? What's happening to Bobby and Nihal and the other 9-11 shows?

Not quite sure about Colin Murray though - isn't he just another daytime Indie DJ?? Who needs to hear another show playing carbon-copied bands with the word "The..." in their names!
Saying that, as long as the genius that is the MINI-MIX moves over to Friday, it can't be all bad!

Friday nights? AMAZING. Congratulations for the promotion Annie and the team!! More than deserved. However, i agree with 'tricks' in that there is already a lot of Indie on Radio 1. I hope you manage to retain the cutting edge dance element that i'm such a fan of in your new show and time slot. You keep me ahead of the game!! X

Wont this new show make it like all other shows but just at night. indie then a little dance or visa versa just to keep people happy.
Your current show is already different and who ever listens to it becomes truly addicted to it purely because it is fresh and different.
Hopefully im wrong and it will be class but I gotta say indie and dance don't mix in my eyes although thats just my opinion either way im gonna listen oh and good luck ;p

Complain about this postI am disappointed by this decision, I feel that you influenced me with different music that I would not normally listen to. I usually listen to House and Breaks, but your show has introduced me to Drum and Bass and Hip Hop. I am sure there are listeners who are into Drum and Bass and Hip Hop but now like House and Breaks by listening to your show.
Complain about this postThursday night is weekend eve and was a great night for the show, I know you used to DJ indie music before radio 1 and think the new show will be good. I am worried that there will be less Drum and Bass, Hip Hop etc.
As for Colin Murrey being a specialist DJ, have to wait and see but I am not expecting great things. I totally agree with Phil B's post above.
What do i reckon ? Im really sad to see that The Blue Room and in particular Chris Coco will be leaving Radio 1's schedule. A true asset to Radio 1 and once again we fall victim to more rock music.
Indie and Dance do sit side by side but i do think on Radio they need to do the genres own thing......

I've got to say, though, I love the music mix of your Thursday show and I'm not sure I'll dig the indie stuff as much. Saying that though, you do display impeccable taste so maybe I should just wait and see.

I've loved your show from the very first second! A show where you played what you liked not what the play list told you. I love the fact that it’s a little party before the weekend starts proper on Friday with Pete.
Such a mainstream slot has to have a catch...Could this mean less of the characteristic tunes and more of the ‘same old same old’ we get everywhere else?
Also, on a selfish note, when you do move to Fridays (I guess you'll be 9pm onward.) I won't get to listen live anymore as I'll already be out!?!?
I finally have to say I agree with the previous comments regarding indie. I love both styles of music but rarely want them in the same show.

As a die-hard can't-stopper, I have mixed feelings after hearing about this move... Thursday nights won't be the same without you, but the Friday night slot is definately a step forward and I am so happy for you. You deserve it!!
But I love the current mix of dance beats & different styles that you play on Thursday's and so I'll have to wait and see how the balance of Dance* & Indie lines up on the new show. One thing's for sure tho, we need to keep the Minimix!!
(*Hopefully when you say "Dance" - this will involve the whole spectrum of Dance Music, including Breaks, D&B, House, etc. and not just the crummy commercial stuff)
I can see a bit of a trend at the moment for dance & indie to re-unite, similar to the Madchester Scene in the late 80's & early 90's. For example there has been lots of good remixes of Indie Music, certain Indie bands have been playing live in Clubs and it is now common for DJ's to play live at Indie/Rock Festivals.
Anyway, all the best with the new show!! Keep up the good work...

...congratulations, Annie! on your New Show! I've done another 2 "traditional" contemporary Classical minimixes, each with so much more sophistication... my new Orchestrations and Arrangements from the best of the best productions on CD and DVD! ...you think my first and alternative minimixes on my yamaha motif sampling keyboard workstation were sweet (and, yes, those are my Performances/Programs/Patches!), my multisamples and arrangements of Orchestra Blasts, singles notes, turns, trills, glissandos, scale runs, scale sweeps... and vocalisations (I'll never sample anything out of the domain of the public, or any recognisable Musical theme in violation of copyright law! ...I only produce the best serious - contemporary Classical - Music!), and mixing multisamples with my roland sampler is fun! My most recent jingles/tracks/idents/spots are ridiculously breathtaking, all-time high production quality as if for State-of-the-Art Motion Picture Soundtrack Production... my sound library volumes on CD include the 2 audio CD set Best Of Wiener Philharmoniker. Anyone interested? You have my P.O. Box! ...all the best, always!

Complain about this postI'm totally gutted that the current show is going as its definitley one of the best things on radio at the moment, I'm a definite can't stopper (although on listen again every Friday morning).
So if you're moving to Friday nights what's happening to Pete Tong, the press release says nothing about him leaving? Also what about Zane's show is this being replaced by Colin's new show? Again these are two of Radio 1's biggest and most sucesfull shows and instead we get a quote from Fergie!

Do you know what time/day "Your Show" will be on? Will it be a general request show? or will it be focussed on any particular genre(s)? any other details...?
I think that all us Can't Stoppers should hi-jack the show by requesting loads of Dance,D&B,Breaks,House,Hip-Hop,etc. in memory of your Thursday Night Show.
Also, do you know what time slot on Friday night will your "Mix Tape" Show be on?

I will still be playing the same mix of music that I do on Thursday night's. Everything from D&B to Breaks to Hip hop to Electro house. But I'm going to throw in some indie on top of this. I'm not talking Bright Eyes here, I'm talking big dancey indie tracks, of which there are more and more of these days. And it will work because I and the team will make it work.
This will all happen between 10 and midnight on Friday nights.
The other show is still in development, it will be on Sunday evenings and I'll tell you more on that as soon as I know. x

One of the best things about annie's current thursday night slot is the fact i can listen to dance music to set me up for the weekend. If its moved to friday's between 10-12 i'll be out either djing or partying. Looks like i'll just have to 'listen again' in future.
Glad to hear there'll be more indie/dance music, there's a lot of it around at the moment.
