Ryan Vail and Ciaran Lavery – The Sea At Night

They say: “This track for us is our favourite track on the Sea Legs album. We both thought it captured our two different styles really well. Ciaran wrote such dark and quirky lyrics, it would have been a sin not to complement them the same musically.

When recording this with Ciaran, the weather was quite dark and stormy, and I spent a day or two doing sound recordings of the wind and rain. Finally when I felt I had enough recorded, I began building synth sounds. I had it in my mind that the bass should move almost like water.

We left some space in this track to help create a sense of environment and let the found sound breathe. Overall we are really happy with how it turned out and we love playing it live.” - Ryan Vail

We say: “Contrasts are masterfully blended to make a track of pure beauty. Folk singer/songwriter Ciaran Lavery and electronic artisan Ryan Vail have together reached a pinnacle in ‘The Sea At Night’ - combining mature vocals with masterful production.”
