Orchid Collective – Lay As Stone
Thursday 17th March 2016
They Say: “'Lay As Stone' is a song that existed before the band even formed and it has taken many different attempts to get it where it is now because of its unusual structure. It was almost as if the song was testing us as musicians and arrangers. We knew we loved the song and what it could be, but it had to be done in a certain way and thankfully that happened (I think). I guess in a nutshell it's about someone having a bad day, or a stressful period of time. Sometimes the best thing to do is stay at home - or wherever it is you're most comfortable - and with whoever you're most comfortable with, for a day to relax and not dwell on it all. Everyone deserves a break from time to time is the moral of the story, I guess. Sometimes it's a nice feeling to cut yourself off for a short period of time and do what you want to do rather than what you're expected to do every other day.”
We Say: “Brought to our attention this week by Nialler9, Orchid Collective bring us a thoughtful and rousing slice of their ‘alternative folk’ sound in 'Lay As Stone'. Sweet harmonies, a reflective narrative and a rather epic ending make for a wonderful track indeed.”
Based in Dublin, Orchid Collective are David O'Shea, Hugh O'Neill, Shea Tohill and Brian Rooney. 'Lay As Stone' is out now.
