Black Chapels – Dying Breed

Tuesday 17th January 2017

They say:
Dying Breed is a song about a very close band friend (and one time bassist) and his endeavours. It's a very simple song and if people listen to the lyrics I think they speak for themselves. Let's just say he should have been a roadie back in the day but in reality he is a plumber who drives his mates band to gigs. It doesn't exactly have any real sort of personal meaning to the band but we still love playing it. We also like the simplicity of it.

As far as influences go I can't speak for Francis and where he got the influences for the opening riffs but he's always had a healthy appreciation of the heavier sides of rock, particularly bands from the '90s. I remember hearing the demo version of the riff and it blowing my mind. As far as the other riffs I was living on a healthy diet of Royal Blood's early releases and Pulled Apart By Horses Tough Love album at the time of writing, so I'd imagine that shines through. But the song pretty much wrote itself once we got into a room. Our best songs usually form like that.”

- Darren Miller.

We say:
“A crushing doom intro gives way to a bluesy metal groove, swaggering its way towards a pedal-to-the-metal, untamed and unashamed glorious guitar solo – and that’s just within the first couple of minutes. Yes, Dying Breed wears its influences on its leather sleeves, but it flat out refuses to be pigeonholed.

Instead Black Chapels grab you by the ears and take you on a rollercoaster ride of howling feedback, fat riffs and raunchy lyrics. Effortlessly, endlessly enjoyable.”

‘Dying Breed’ is taken from Black Chapels' debut album of the same name, and the song is available to download for free right now.
