ATL ‘Rated R’ continues!

Presenter, ATL Introducing

Daniel August

It went off the charts this week on ATL Raps, as we looked at some of the finest Irish rap, hip hop & grime; You name it, we played it!

We kicked off ATL Raps with Denise Chaila, an artist who has been making serious waves recently. Not only was her debut LP ‘Chaila’ winner of the Choice Music Prize 'Album of the Year' last year but she has more recently been nominated for the Music Moves Europe Awards. A prize that showcases emerging European talent. Which is a huge deal!

We also caught up with rising MC & rapper Emby. As an artist he’s heavily influenced by grime, garage and dubstep leaning into the realm of the 140bpm range. He told us how his new single ‘Radio’ featuring Dublin’s Tomike mixes ‘the speed of rapping on grime & his favourite music, Neo soul. So you have your D’Angelo, Jill scott, Angie Stone and all of those sort of people’

He hit the nail on the head. Team ATL agree that it’s the perfect blend of genres from these two.

But that’s not all, we managed to hear new music from all of these incredible artists too:

• Jyellowl

• USNA & Santino Browne

• Endo

• Jay Clique

• Muttonhead & Local Boy

• Jordan Adetunji

• Alicia Raye

• Leo Miyagee

• Emby & Tomike

• Sello & Offica

• EJA -l

• Daniel August & Conall Shaw

• Malaki & Tolu Makay

• Ruff Dymond

• Mega

• Aby Coulibaly

• Mango X Mathman & Melina Malone

• PRiiCE

I mean what a lineup?! We even managed to get a sneaky first play of Daniel August’s unreleased single ‘Sensible’, which you won’t be able to hear anywhere else yet! Daniel told us about the process of writing, saying ‘I like to write how I’m feeling at that particular moment…I was writing today and wrote; a verse is like a puzzle or a canvas for the art. I know where it’s gonna end but I don’t know where I’m going to start.’ We can’t wait to hear what’s next for Daniel as he promised us he has a lot of exciting new material in the pipeline.

Just like all of our artists featured on the ATL Raps list we believe 2022 is going to be a MASSIVE year for them and we’re very excited to see what they do. To get the full ATL raps experience, take a listen on BBC Sounds, just search ATL Introducing.
