We Cut Corners - On Avoiding People and Of Whatever (LIVE SESSION)

Thursday 3rd November, 2016

They say:
"The first song, On Avoiding People, was the first single from our new record. It's the closest thing to a classic We Cut Corners song that we have in the new batch of music - short, sharp, snappy, bright drum and guitar pop song. The takes a darker turn and the sonic palette is broadened to introduce some sinister brass tones.

The second song, Of Whatever, is our favourite from the new record. It has a parallel narrative - a couple's relationship stagnating due to complacency - and then a broader sociopolitical apathy is drawn out in the refrain. This song above any other captures the atmosphere of the space in which we recorded - a chapel on the outskirts of Dublin City.

Playing both in the stripped back setting in the BBC studio was equally intimidating and exciting. They needed to go through a process of deconstruction and rebuilding to make them work in that environment but playing them in that space was a real joy."

We say: “Hearing the lush, soaring harmonies of On Avoiding People in the intimate space of Studio 8 here in Broadcasting House - as opposed to a full electric stage set-up like we might be used to - was a real treat.

In this stripped back setting, the tender intertwining melodies in Of Whatever were given plenty of room to breathe, complementing the duality of the lyrics perfectly."

Dublin duo We Cut Corners will be launching their new album 'The Cadences Of Others' is available from Friday, with a launch party at The Button Factory, Dublin, on the evening of November 19th.
