Warriors of the Dystotheque – Into the 40’s

Thursday 21st January, 2016

They Say: “I (Jonny Mac) had been driving back from a festival in Port Laois called Scrobarnach where I had just been DJing as WotD. I had my music on shuffle and an old mix I had done back in the early 90's came on and its opening track was Photek - 'Into The 90's' which in my eyes, along with early Nightmares on Wax, Ninja Tune, Mo'Wax and the like - epitomises Trip Hop.

After stopping for coffee I flicked over my music to The Cinematic Orchestra and listened to them for the next 3 hours of the drive in the blistering sunshine with the windows down, absorbing the vibes with a smile on my face.

As soon as I got out of the car, I thought I really need to make a piece of cinematic beauty in the future. The following week in the studio I laid down some pads and some beats which transported me back to what I had been listening to on the journey. So I mailed them off to Mike & Nick in New York, who added the Keys, Guitar, Bass and Strings. They sent it back and I added the electronic sounds and arranged it before sending it to Sean who mixed and mastered it. Overall it was finished in a week which is pretty fast work for us considering the time differences…

We are currently in the process of adding vocals to it but as a standalone instrumental we thought we would share it and seeing as it started from ‘Into the 90's’ and I'm just ‘into my 40s’ I thought it was a fitting name…”

We say: “Smoky and nodding to the soundscape vibes of numerous Trip Hop era Bristol-ians, WOTD are once again flexing their studio muscle - this time around adding strings and some incredible percussion. We’re very excited about big plans for 2016 and a forthcoming EP.”

WOTD will release their EP 'Return To Coney' via Tigre Fair on 4th March 2016.
