Rebekah Brown - Solitude

They Say: "After weeks of writers block, frustration, I wrote Solitude one Sunday evening about that constant feeling of always having to please people and that need to escape and be alone for a while. How you need a moment to be alone and feel better for it. Nobody likes feeling like they’re boxed up, we try to escape, yet there’s always that one person, you try to ignore them but you can’t, because they won’t give you that space or the time. So unless they leave you alone for a while, you can’t have that peace of mind.

I want it to be a song everyone can relate to, whether it's interpreted in the same way it's meant or for their own personal interpretation.

I recorded an acoustic demo of the song in my bedroom, there was nothing professional about it. I got fed up of bad quality recordings, I felt like I wouldn't be taken seriously.

After seeing the response my acoustic demo got from friends, I was determined to record and get it produced, along with the other two tracks I wrote. I’d never been to a recording studio before so I asked around and a friend recommended I get in touch with Mark J Adair at Vega Sound Studios.

I wanted to do all the vocals myself, I sang all my own harmonies, with Mark to advise me on what would sound good and we developed ideas, he was very patient.

I was so bad at explaining to Mark how I imagined/wanted the songs to sound like, so after me failing to verbally describe it to him, I told him I had been listening to a lot of folk and pop and how I wanted Solitude to be big and upbeat, unlike the moody acoustic version... with cool drums and violins if possible.

Then thats when the song completely evolved into something wonderful and I couldn’t be happier with it. He is a fantastic producer and captured the sound I was hoping for.

I got him to listen to the likes of Daughter and Tom Odell. Other influences of mine would be Ed Sheeran, Snow Patrol, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Avril Lavigne and so many more, too many genres.

I’m really excited about it and for everyone to hear the rest of my Debut EP, also titled Solitude, which I hope to release in February this year".

We Say: "On first listen this seems like another young singer songwriter (in this case, from Carrick) creating relatively familiar, albeit very pleasant music. But there’s a subtle edge and more than enough creativity to justify a fairly huge chunk of expectation".
