On this weeks New Tune Disco, Rigsy had Phil Taggart on the line from London to chat about their favourite new tracks.
SOAK – B a NoBody
Phil: “She’s just a special talent... people like this and people like her don’t come along very often.”
Rigsy: “It’s just awesome… She’s huge now and it’s brilliant to see her on a label like Rough Trade who will absolutely do her justice.”
Hounds of Alaska – Down and out in Belfast and London (Swiss Pirate Remix)
Rigsy: “It sounds like stripped down EDM meets indie pop… It’s that kind of euphoria, Calvin Harris-esque stuff.”
Phil: “It’s a pleasurable tune to thine ear.”
UNKNWN – BBY
Phil: “He was making all of his tracks on a busted laptop with software from the 90’s... he’s obviously got a bit of an upgrade… it’s just added so much more texture to the music, it’s a lot more soundscape’y.”
Rigsy: “To develop that much in a year is very impressive stuff.”
White Male Actors – Take A Bow
Rigsy: “A three piece from Strabane… Strabane the kind of capital for great new music in Northern Ireland. From the new EP Ghosts… the whole thing worth checking out. I’m a massive fan of that track.”
Meb Jon Sol – Leave All Your Troubles With Me
Phil: “It’s such a heart melting little waltz. Love the video – it’s as soppy and heart-warming as mebby himself. ”
Rigsy: “You can imagine men with beards enjoying this music, sort of sea-shanty vibe. There’s a real sort of storytelling tradition with that type of music that he’s tapped in to.”
Ink Spelt Death – When are Friends on Time
Phil: “They only started the band in July. They managed one day in the studio to record three tracks which is a great hit-for-hit ratio.”
Cinder Ghosts – Something Wicked This Way Comes
Rigsy: “He should be very proud of this EP. A very adventurous and creative selection of tracks.”
Phil: It’s really good I kind of like the percussion to it, its vaguely garage but sort of in that Burial kind of way.”
