It’s 3 years since debut ‘Pillow Talk’, and the first thing that hits is how much the band have grown since 2015. ‘Cherrydream’ creeps along with a soulful tenderness interrupted with explosions of sound, while title track ‘Sugar’ and opener ‘Eyes Burning’ have unexpected pop elements that keep it all extremely entertaining.
With 6 tracks the EP’s not short, but does have a sweetness that carries it through. It’s this constant conflict between bubblegum pop and grungy rock that keeps Wynona Bleach interesting and performing at the top of the game. The Sugar EP is an enjoyable listen from a band that could well write the next ‘Siamese Dream’
