He might be better known for bouncy indie-pop gems, but Armagh’s New Atlas has embraced his dark side on new single ‘Lay Low’.
A twisted love song, it twins distorted vocals with a slick bass beat to create a pounding grove laden chorus. The melody apparently came to him at 4am one morning, which is no surprise, as it’s a track that could keep a house party going into the early hours.
A shift towards a more dance driven sound, ‘Lay Low’ finds New Atlas proudly wearing the influence of acts who embrace melancholy in their songs, such as Billie Eilish and XXXTentacion.
Perfect for a night strolling along alleyways awash in neon light, could this track be the sign of a new musical direction for New Atlas in 2019?
