Brand New Friend – ‘I Was an Astronaut’
Despite their age, Brand New Friend have an amazing ability to replicate feels created by the post-grunge wake of the late 90s, usually heard sound-tracking teenage flicks that never made it beyond VHS (ask your Dad, and while you’re at it, ask him if he ever watched ‘Empire Records’).
These are the kind of farfetched and oversaturated movies that are brimming with awkwardness and hope, and for some reason they leave you wanting to be that awkward misfit on the big screen, living your best life, running havoc in a fantasy record shop.
Like skipping class, or your first kiss, ‘I Was an Astronaut’ is harmless fun that leaves you with a tingle and a want for more. It’s not breaking the mould, but with everything else so uncertain at the moment, is that such a bad thing?
