Carriages – Moving Parts

Friday 7thOctober, 2016

They say:

Moving Parts began as a recording of Harry’s nephew Alex singing when he was 3 or 4 years old. We took out a small segment of it and wrote a chord sequence and then Aaron wrote a vocal melody over it. The samples for the beats were recorded in Delgany, Co Wicklow outside the studio of Solar Bears’ Rian Trench while Harry’s old band, Little Xs For Eyes, were recording inside. Mostly made up of recordings of stones hitting pipes and feet stamping on branches and leaves, Moving Parts is an attempt to turn a sparse electronic beat into our take on Disco over the course of the song.”

We say:

“On paper, the notion of fusing field-sampled shuffling leaves and snapping branches with electro beats sounds like it could make for trying listening. Gloriously, this is far from the case with Moving Parts; rich layers of luxuriously recorded audio are stitched together into a catchy and unique aural tapestry. Do yourself a favour - listen to it in headphones and enjoy every thoughtfully sampled sound.”

Duo Carriages combine Aaron Page's songwriting with Harry Bookless' found sounds.
