Party Fears - Rep

Tuesday 7th February 2017

They say: “The original demo of ‘Rep’ was very chilled out, even though the riff was the same: much slower and the theme was lighter. Then a few things happened as the song was being developed that made me think really different thematically– a friend got attacked by a guy in a bar, for example, and there was just this general, global, pervasive backlash against feminism and equality.

At practice I stuck on ‘The Affectionate Punch’ by The Associates and we tried to capture that panicky sound in the verses where I sing about sexual violence and predators; mansplaining too, haha!

When it gets to the chorus and I sing about 'somewhere to go', the song opens up and there's a lot more space; fewer notes. I was trying to reflect the importance of a 'room of one's own' there, I suppose. Despite its theme, it's my favourite song to play live I think. Get to have a wee dance.”

We say: “‘Rep’ possesses a cheeky swagger that we’re really digging here at team ATL. The social contrast between the verses and chorus is very well realised lyrically and musically, and combined with a positively bouncy riff and confident delivery it becomes something greater than the sum of it’s parts.”

‘Rep’ is the second single from Berlin based band Party Fears. You can stream the song and download for free here.
