New Tune Disco - 20th October

Across The Line

For this week’s New Tune Disco, Rigsy was joined in studio by Phil Taggart to share some of their favourite new music from both North and South of the border.

Gaze Is Ghost - Revolvere

Phil - “It’s got that sparseness., but it’s also like a bit of a whispy grandiose epic as well… Maybe like a pared back London Grammar… If were talking about Northern Irish acts it shares some of the more mainstream DNA of somebody like Katharine Philippa.”

Rigsy - “I can say very confidently that I think Gaze is Ghost is better than London Grammar. I can engage with Gaze is Ghost a little bit more”

Hounds of Alaska – Hey Matador

Phil - “This is a little bit different than the last track. His vocal sort of reminded me of… Ryan Jarman from The Cribs. It almost feels like this is the beginning, it feels like he’s still trying to search for his sound.”

Rigsy - “He’s on a journey and we’re enjoying that journey with him.”

The Bedroom - Basquiat

Phil - “It’s a one person project and he plays everything live. Owen’s quite artsy… There’s lots of really wicked visuals and stuff that go along with it… The music that he makes is so incredibly diverse. He’s got a really good essence for playing stuff that’s accessible but also quite left field.”

Martha Ffion - Sugar Coat

Rigsy - “Always a good sign whenever we pick a different track off the EP than what is sort of suggested to us. Nice 60’s vibe to this, deliberately scrappy production… All about the voice though.”

Phil - “It’s a little bit low-fi, but it completely and utterly adds as a facet to the vibe of the song.”

One Known – JST BKZ

Phil - “This track’s incredible isn’t it? It almost sounds like the best computer game never made. He’s an incredibly proficient and passionate producer. I just really gravitate towards music as excellently put together as this track JST BKZ.”

Rigsy - “It’s so simple to a point… but there is just something there.”

Hare Squead – Underground Binih

Phil - “They’re just making really chilled out almost mid-school era Hip Hop music. Incredibly young and they’ve done quite a lot. Yeah, I was really vibe’in off that”

Rigsy - “I love it. I’m surprised we haven’t stumbled upon that until now. That’s something we’ll certainly be revisiting.”

The Sass – Supposed To Be A Party

Rigsy - “the lead track from an EP that’s due next month. We like this because there’s no frills… Just straight up pop punk. This is great”

Phil - “This is the music I grew up on. It’s very ballsy, very blokey.”
