Femmepop – There is a Place

Friday 29th January, 2016

They Say: "There Is A Place' came to me in a rush one afternoon. I had already put down this really laid back melody that I had created on FL studio. So I then came up with the vocal melody instantly, it just came to me. I remember I was humming and hawing about the vocals I had put down originally for the song, as I was going to record them again but the raw emotion I was feeling at the time of recording just flooded out in the chorus. It's probably the least perfected vocal I have ever put down for any of my songs, but I deliberately left it this time, as I felt the little imperfections added to the song. The story of the the song is in keeping with the theme of the 'Underground' EP. It's about the outsider and having faith in yourself. It's about the richness in diversity and making the alien in you feel ok. David Bowie and Suede always championed the outsider or those excluded from mainstream culture because of gender, sexuality, dress or lifestyle. And I have always been drawn to this.”

We say: “There is a surplus of kitschy, electro tunes out there just now but Femmepop have the advantage of Margaret O'Sullivan's vocal textures and songs with purpose, humour and heart. This is one of those.”

‘There is a Place’ is from the Underground E.P which is released on 30th January, 2016
