Swords – Hips
They say – “Hips is one of a few songs Diane had written almost fully before we formed Swords. We played it live but when recording our EP and album we put it on the back burner for a while until our producer highlighted its potential. Keeping the original vocal, but adding some mildly Portishead influenced drums, bass and that evolving synth sound at the end brought Hips to where we wanted it to be. Adding in the vision of Charlene in Smalltown America and the Video's director Neil Hoare allowed Hips to take on a life of its own and for many people to hear it. All from that little Piano & Vocal seed.”
We say – “Dublin 3-piece Swords make beautiful, synth laden sounds, with rather haunting vocals on top. It’s not all laid back on their debut album Lions & Gold though, there’s tracks with plenty of pace on there, but we thought we’d revisit Hips, a stunning track which reached us earlier this year.”
Swords were surprise guests at a recent Smalltown America recorded studio performance - that set is available as a 5-track E.P until 4th November.
